Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone else has problems with sores on your tongue, and mouth? If so, did you find anything that helped ease the discomfort or shorten the problem? It sure makes eating less than fun - which I guess isn't such a bad thing.

Laz,Hi Laz
I get them sometimes, due to the methotrexate (it's one of the more common side effects) even though I take the folic acid.
My mouth sores cleared up when I used 'Oracort' (a mouth ointment, with 1% cortisteroid).
I had mouth sores when I started the MTX, and the ones on your tongue are the worst because - becoth you thart to talk funny. But an extra mg. of folic acid a day put a stop to that, and I haven't had them since.Hi To All!
Hi "LAZ!"
I do not take MTX, so I do not know about the side-effects as do the individuals who have written before me. I do not know if you take MTX, either? I had a terrible problem for yearrs with this. My gums would even "peel!" I was in a major research then and this was a major problem and was thought to be a sign of the disease they were researching. I was one of the ones they'd watched to see how this disease manifested and how it might progress. Therefore, these oral symptoms were a "big deal!" Yet, there was never a clear explanation. Hmmmm.... Ten years later, I meet up with a different dental hygenist. She had just returned from a national conference and had heard the "Tartar Control" ingredients in toothpastes were causing this local reaction with many people. To this day, I can make this "oral mess" appear or disappear, without fail, by using or not using pastes with "tartar control" ingredients! It was that simple for me. I hope it's that simple for you!
Glad you are here with us! Hope to hear more from you as time goes on!May you experience healing... healing on every level of your life! Blessings! Hi readingteacher, like myself, many arthritics have tongue and mouth sores. Solution: Watermelon Frost. Buy from Chinese medical store and spray to the sores many times a day. A 3gm powder packed in small plastic bottle. Avoid deep fried foods, eat more fruits and drink more water. You will get well soon. HI Laz, Try 1/2 maalox and 1/2 liquid benedryl, as a swish or rinse (don't swallow). 3 times perday. It soothes and stops more mouth sores from coming on. Jody I'm bad to get them on my lips. I do take MTX & Folic acid; but I've been getting these since I was a child. In the summer months especially due to the sun. About a year ago I bought something called viramedx at the drug store. It's really expensive but last a long time. If you are prone to getting them on the outside of your lips you know how you get that tingle/itchy feeling right as they start. If you start with this stuff as soon as you feel that they'll never appear. I think that's key with any of the ointments though. Start it early. I'm not much help on the inside of the mouth. Althought I get those too....I haven't found a magic solution to those yet. WOW...I was just about to POST this same thing. I get this off and on In a flare and out. I just so happen to be coming out of a bad flare, YET...got CA - MRSA as well. Now...my body is out of whack.
I am on MTX and Folic ACID...yet...my mouth is a real mess. Tongue is sore, mouth sores to boot and gums are on fire. I am having a hard time trying to eat.
I will try getting tooth paste without the tartar control...but, it seems to happen even with out it. I think though, it does make it worse. I will also try the Maloxx treatment as well. Roblyn Lovie, thank you for the info on the Viramedx. I get those damn sores on my lips all the time. Your right, you can feel them as they are starting. I too have been getting them for years. When I'm in a stressful situation, BAM, out it comes. I started with one today in the Drs. office. I will pick up the medication tomorrow. Trisha
Thank you everyone for all of your help! I'll give them a try! LAZ
