Hand Surgery? | Arthritis Information

Has anyone had the ulnar drift correction surgery?  I think the correct name is soft tissue re-alignment.  Basically my tendons all slipped off my knuckles and they have to place them back on, do some muscle snipping and possibly MCP joint replacements when they get in there.  Looking at the xray though the surgeon seems to think the jonts themselves are ok.

I have surgery scheduled for August 25th.  The surgeon didn't volunteer too much about adjustments that need to be made or REAL PERSON recovery time or even how recovery goes.  Don't want to be blindsided.

Trying to get some ideas gathered so I can call him later this week and get my questions I may have answered.

Thanks for any insight :)

Have you asked about any forms of conservative treatment options before surgery?  I think it is important to at least try other avenues if there are any.

Good luck.

I have been through therapy, injections and a variety of braces...the outrigger styles and the basic splint.  Therapy by a hand specialist while doing exercises at home.  In a matter of two years my deviation went from 15 to 43 degrees.  The drift is impeding chores and the pain sometimes is very uncomfortable.

I tried :)  Now it is time to get it fixed.
