Ankle surgery | Arthritis Information

Has anyone looked into ankle replacement? I read somewhere online that if the procedure doesnt work they have to either stiffen the ankle so it doesnt ever move again or amputate your foot. Lovely isnt it?Ivy, I don't know too much, but my PT was talking about ankle surgery and he said recovery is probably the toughest of all the joints, as there are so many movements the ankle makes.  It moves up and down, around, side to side, and there are many bones in the foot.

Are you considering having surgery?

not now, lol..my ankles are shot, my right ankle is the worst. I have been having a throbbing pain in my right leg as if the leg bone has shifted and is trying to bow to compensate the lack of the ankles stability. right now pain meds help some, but i can tell it wont be long and I am going to be very crippled.

Have you tried ankle braces to help stabilize and support your ankle?  Also, you might ask your doctor about physical therapy to to help strengthen the supportive muscles and tendons.  Exercise helps to lubricate the joints too, but it should be the right kind of exercise.  It would be helpful to learn from a therapist.

I hope you can get some kind of relief and soon!
