Strange New Symptom | Arthritis Information

Okay, this is just weird - my hip and part of my butt cheek are numb and they have been all day!  It's an area about the size of a salad plate over my bad hip (the one that has almost no cartilage left in it).  I can push in hard about three inches and barely feel it!  (And unfortunately I have more than 3 inches available to push into!)

So what the heck is this all about?

I don't know unless a nerve is being compressed. But then, my hands and feet sometimes go numb and then it goes away. I guess if it continues, then you should worry.

There's certainly parts of me that I WISH would go numb. If you figure it out, maybe you could bottle that up and sell it.

Hillhoney, I don't know what to say to you. I've never experienced this. I'm sure it's something to do with your nerves. Our poor, RA addled nerves. They don't know what to do. I guess I'm glad you're numb rather than in pain. You're a NPIB - non pain in butt.  I doubt my husband would agree with you!

More notes for my diary to take to the doctor next time!  Too bad I don't need any shots, cause I have the perfect place to take one!
Hi Hillhoney, I know I get a similar feeling whenever I get bursitis in my hip, it usually goes away so if it doesn't, do as the ladies say and get it checked out.  If it is bursitis, steroid injections help, my recent one lasted about 3 months.  Good luck, Janie.

Hillhoney, I do not know what this is & usually don't ask docs about weird stuff as they tend to just look at you dumbfounded. I have gotten this mostly when I was younger-my sister gets it too. I never found it to be related to anything and it would come & go randomly. I got it on my thigh & buttocks. though yours could be something totally different.

peace, Tam

Thanks for the comeback guys.  I don't know what it is, but I have never been one to be considered "Normal", so I guess this isn't any different!

I have this due to bursitis in the hip. It feels strange, doesn't it?

Nancy

It sure does, Nancy! Here I am days later, and it's still numb!  I guess I should do a little research on bursitis of the hip!  Do you have OA in your hips also? Sounds like bursitis and maybe nerve impingement. The nerve involvement you want to bring to the attention of your doctor, especially if it persists. I get numbness in my legs due to nerve damage in my lumbar area. It can cause permanent damage if it gets bad enough.
