Humira not working?Trying Retuxin | Arthritis Information

My dr. talked to me about retuxin on Friday. Nobody in this area is on it yet. The problem, according to her,  is it's a med of last resort because you can't go back and do Enbrel, Remicade or any of the others after you do this one. It destroys the "B cells" ...whatever that means...so no other biologics afterward. I am going to Remicade next because Enbrel isn't working. I'll be interested in hearing how Retuxin goes for others. I too was told that it is the last choice. I am due to start orencia next
month if my bloodwork comes back elevated again. I have already done
the Enbrel, Humira, and I am now on Remicade. He wants to be careful
cause I am still young and will need these drugs to fall back on.

Interesting discussion.

With Rituxin being a last resort, do we know where future RA medication is going?  Are they going to create biologics that work in the same ways as the current ones or is research going in a different direction such as Rituxin?

My RD has mentioned Rituxin but if the future is biologics I don't know if I want to risk Rituxin quite yet.  You never know if they can refine the current biologics.  And as we know, a few biologics can fail before finding the magic one.  I guess if we were guaranteed Rituxin would work it would be an issue.  We know that can never be the case.
