My rheumatologist loves to tell the newly RA diagnosed to "be grateful you didn't have this 30 years ago when we didn't have anything other than aspirin."  While I understand this is probably true, I just think this is such cold comfort. Yesterday I asked if it is okay that I'm just pissed I didn't get this 30 years from now when there will be a cure.

Although she means well, I don't find this helpful. Do you?

I dont think it is what she is saying, but how she is saying that is wrong. She could say, "30 years ago the treatment for RA was limited to asprin therapy, now there are more and more promising medications available every few years" At least you could come to your own conclusion about whether or not you were "glad" about that. Doctors can be 'book smart' but socially inept. I guess when you spend 10 years in college, your social skills end up in the toilet...at least for some of the ones I have met.

Good response though....

People just dont' think sometimes - I don't think it's out of malice, just stupidity.

I did like your response also, Jody
