New and Scared | Arthritis Information

I am new to this site and I REALLY hope someone can help me.  Last week my left knee started hurting me...so bad I couldn't walk on it.  When I got up the next day the right knee started hurting.  Towards evening time...I could not walk without the help of the walls and furniture. I know I have a touch of arthritis but I could tell something was dreadfully wrong.  I went to the doctor the next day and he said it was arthritis but he gave me an RX for xrays. The pain was getting worse and I was hobbling around like crazy.  I got online and read about infectious or septic arthritis coming on quickly  (overnight) and people could get it from a staph infection.  I had a staph infection in June and July in a cut I got on the back of my leg that required 8 stitches.  I am diabetic and it took 3 months to heal.  It looked OK on the outside, kind of an ugly color but no redness or heat.  I called the DR after hours and told him about what I had found and he said the chances were slim but I could take some Ceftin an antibiotic I had left over from the staph infection, and Advil every 6 hours.  I started the meds and within 2 days the pain had gone and I am back to normal.  Has anyone ever heard of such a recovery?  I did have xrays taken a few days ago while I was in the middle of my malay. So maybe they will show something.  Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Is this how arthritis acts?  I am dumbfounded by all of this.  One day I have trouble sitting down because the pain is so bad and a few days later I am back to normal.  Please advise because I need to know what is happening.  Will this happen again???

Hi Patty

Sorry to hear of your troubles - it must have been frightening for you!

I suggest you make an appointment to see a rheumatologist (a specialist in arthritis and other joint diseases). General practitioners don't usually have enough experience with the many types of arthritis that there are!

All the best,

Hi P!

Im very sorry to hear about you.  All of this IS indeed very scary.  I just pray you will NOT have another episode.  As Wendy suggested, I too suggest you see a rheumstologist.  It is always easier to deal with a problem once you know and understand what it is.

Respectfully,
