Dr Visit Results | Arthritis Information

Well, went to my Orth on Thursday and I got to hear the words I've been waiting for.   "Gee, I just don't know".  LOL, he said the cortizone shot should of worked, so now he is sending me out for a MRI.  When I pressured him it was the same answer, "I just don't know until we get the MRI results back, but I think something is wrong with the inside of the bone".  So now have to wait on that.

I called my RD on Thursday as well, because it had been 2 weeks since I had seen him and still hadn't heard back about my blood work.  The nurse told me they were not allowed to give out that information over the phone, I told her that for one thing I was told they would call me and let me know what the results were and 2nd, I was not driving 90 miles to find out.  She took my number and said that she would talk to the doctor.  Well, I called back on Friday and another nurse told me the results weren't back yet.  I asked her if it took 2 weeks and she said yes, due to the special testing.  But to call back on Monday, it should be back by then.

So once more, just a waiting game.

Phil

I can't believe that they didn't already do a MRI. What are they? Dense?

That is such balonely about getting your bloodwork results. This office is not very cooperative and doesn't seem too concerned about your problems. I wish you had a better one to go to.

I hate the waiting game. Don't take no for an answer today on your blood work. Push. Let them know you are upset.

There's no good reason why they can't give you the bloodwork results over the phone - and there's no good reason why it should take so long. I get my results done at a hospital, not my doctor's office, and the doctor has the results the next day. Really, they're giving you the runaround.

Hi Phil

It's good to get an update, sorry you're still having difficulties with the medical system, and I understand why it was good to hear someone admit they don't know what you have: Kinda gives you an opening to say "well, send me to someone who will"!

I agree they should absolutely be able to give your results over the phone!

Keep up the good fight Phil - these are tricky diseases to diagnose sometimes.

My RD called this morning and left a message to give them a call for my results.  Well I called them back and they said the doctor is with a patient and will call you, well never heard back.  I work 3rd shift, so I fell asleep, but when I woke up there were no calls on my caller ID that they had called.  Guess I will try again in the morning before I go to sleep again.

Hi Phil,

You are being treated so badly! I'm so sorry you are still getting the run-around. How about you tell them in the morning that you'll hold (on the phone) until you get to speak to the RD?

Good luck!

Well, my RD finally called back today and I talked to him for a whopping 3 minutes.  He said that my kidney and liver results were good, but I still show inflammation, didn't know you could tell that by the blood test.  He said to continue my medicine and he would see me in October, then he said got to go, by and hung up.

I have been on MTX for 9 weeks now, but this is my 2nd week of doubling my dosage, it was 7.5 and is now 15 so I hope it starts working quicker.  He also has me on 10mg of pred, 5mg twice a day and honestly before I was on 20 mg 10mg twice a day and had very little pain, except my feet.  But now I'm always stiffed, I told him this and he said to just continue on.  I've thought about going back to 20mg a day on my own, but hate to do this, but also hate to feel stiff and sore all the time.  I don't have a lot of choices when it comes to RA doctors though, matter of fact I only have 1.

Thanks

Phil

Hey Phil...yep, a sed rate shows inflammation when it is elevated..but you can have inflammation and a normal sed rate. So, it sounds like they dont have their act together over there...maybe it is just a communication problem. My GPs office wont give any results over the phone. You have to go back in for another appt to get results. I think that is sh*tty. I have been shopping around for a new one because of it. My RD calls me himself with the results, and if I call to ask him something, he calls me back same day. Every time I hear a story like yours, I realize what a gem that guy really is. It is just shameful the way some doctors and their office workers treat people. I swear it is easier to get good treatment at the DMV than the doctors office!

So the doctor thinks your foot is swollen, eh? Now theres a revelation! Did you tell him, "eureka! I think you've got it"---I am sorry it just really gets me steamed that they arent jumping on this a little faster...it's only your feet afterall!!!!

Oh, Phil....shall we give your doctors a conference call???

I have to get just a little mad about my peeps getting treated so poorly. Wish there was a way to help. I guess we will just have to wait....damn it! Well, rest when you can and here's hoping that the next time is the one!
