Cyclosporine problem? | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone, have not been feeling too great, extremely tired, don't know if it is possible for Neoral to make you feel so tired so quickly, but I don't know what else would be doing it.

I started Neoral (cyclosporine) 5 days ago and last night I could not wear my cpap machine due to a blocked nose, this morning I was experiencing asthma and chesty cough, could I have an upper respiratory tract infection already, I always get these on DMARDS, but not usually this quickly.  Any help would be appreciated.  Many thanks Janie.

Janie,

I would suggest calling your DR right away. I know cyclosporine has some serious side effects. Good Luck and let us know how you are doing. Pat

Hi Janey,

Gosh it's so long ago that I started Cyclo, and I was so ill in hospital at the time, that I can't remember the first few weeks.  If you have Asthma, it could be that you're more prone to such infections - I haven't had any problem with respiratory infections on just the Cyclo. It is quite possible that it is causing the tiredness though but that should pass once your system adapts to the drug, (if you manage to stay on it).  The initial weeks and sometimes months on these new drugs can be difficult and it takes time for them to work, but like Pat said, if you are worried, I would call the Dr for advice - it's only natural to look into any concern with this type of thing, they are afterall very powerful drugs.

I hope you are doing okay, keep us posted

Moonie

Hi Pat and Moonie, thanks for your replies, I did as you both suggested and contacted my Rheumy, after developing a nasty cough and sore throat, I had to stop the cyclosporine immediately and have to get some antibiotics today from my GP.  This always happens to me on any Dmard, usually after about 6 weeks though not 5 days, never mind, my rheumy wants me to try again after the infection has cleared up.  Wish me luck, regards Janie.
