Remicade | Arthritis Information

I'm starting Remicade next month since I "failed Enbrel" (but, really, did I fail Enbrel or did it fail me? I mean, I did my part...) but I'm not sure what to expect. I know it's an infusion at the doc's office and that's about all I know. I mean, I know it's a biologic and all, but I want to know what others have thought of the procedure, the med, the results, etc.

Thanks

You might want to get online and find as much information as you can. I think the infusions are done as a last resort, because once you take them, if it does not work, you can never go back to the other drugs. Just type in Remicade and you will find all the reports, good luck, Rain I've been on Remicade for over a year. It does pretty well. You can go
back to the other biologics. My dr. and I are discussing me going back on
Enbrel cause it is getting harder for me to take off work for the infusions.

BeckyNancy,
I started the remicade infusions about a year ago.  I'm still on them every 2 months.  I go into the hospital for the infusion (which takes about 4 hours, with the blood tests and getting hooked up...  however, it's a good time to relax!).   My doc said the RA is 'under control" for now, but still want to keep up the infusions a few more times.  I am also on 10 mg prednisone a day.... but if I go below that I'm really hurting.  Also am on 20 mg methotrexate/week.   I am still very tired alot of the time and need naps ... but feeling much better.
I was on enbrel last year and failed at that attempt.
Good luck... hope it works for you.

I've been on remicade since October. I get it every 5 weeks. If it fails you CAN go to other forms of treatment, including back to Enbrel or Humira.

The infusion is no big deal, I sit and get hooked up and chat or read or watch tv.

last infusion I felt better DURING the process. I sit in the recliner with my feet up and the  people in the room all chit chat together.

I eventually failed Enbrel (quit on me after 18 months), so I gave Remicade a try. That was 5 years ago - it worked pretty well but has begun not too during the last year. I don't want to come in more often than every 8 weeks.

It is just like Kathy said, 'I sit and get hooked up and chat or read or watch tv.'

I think I will switch to Humira next year.

So you guys that have tried Remicade havent had any side effects from it?
I've been on Remicade since last Sept.  No side effects, just tired a little the next day.  But, I don't feel that sense of relief that it's working.  Maybe it's 'quietly' working inside and I don't know it!!!  Also the mtx doesn't seem to bother me either, but I'm also on Protonix for stomach problems.  Maybe that's the answer... another drug!
