Dr Update today | Arthritis Information

Well, todays the day that I get my results from the MRI I had done on Friday.  Only problem is that I am feeling very sick and don't know if I will be able to make it to the office as its a little bit of a drive and on top of that, don't have the co-pay (been tight).  I just hope that I get some type of word and I'm hoping they can tell me over the phone.  My RD hasn't really told me a thing, just to stay on my med's and he will see me in October.  Friday was my 10th dose of MTX, just don't know if its doing anything, as I still have inflammation in some of the same area's that I always have, plus every day I'm sore in my hands and arms and now my other foot is hurting like ####, but its not swelled.

Phil

Phil~You really shouldn't have to go in for the results. The doctor might prefer to do a phone consult anyway on his spare time. Call them and explain the situation.

What dose of MTX are you on so far? 10 weeks is a pretty long time. I would have thought you'd see results by now if it was going to happen. Maybe an increase would help? I had to steadily increase mine....and eventually add HUmira before I got really good results. MTX alone did work for me; but it was at a pretty high dose.

Good Luck Sweetie. I hope things improve for you soon.

Agree with all that Lovie said. Phil-I understand how you feel. It's been tight for me
too and so frustrating when you can't afford the
co-pay. Last time I had blood work I just had them
fax the results to me then I kind of researched
results on my own, and then spoke with the nurse in
the office who relayed my questions to the doctor
and we had a phone consult.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi Phil

I hope you can get your results over the phone today. They say with mtx, generally you'll feel an improvement within 4-12 weeks.  When I was on it 5 years ago, I was truly lucky as it put my body into remission - and I certainly could tell it was working :)

Could you try to get an earlier appointment than October to discuss whether or not it's working with your RD?

Keep us posted!

I talked to their office this morning about letting me know over the phone, the nurse said she will talk to the doctor, but haven't heard back.  I also called my RD and did tell him that I was still in a lot of discomfort and was told to just give it time and he would see me in October.  Par for the course!

I was on 7.5 mg of MTX for 8 weeks, the last two weeks have been on 15mg, so I hope that with the increase I will soon see results.

Getting more difficult to walk now, I work 3rd shift and constantly my feet on concrete and by the time I get home, I'm in agony.

Phil

Hi Phil

Hopefully the 15 mg will make a big difference and fast!  Are you on any stronger painkillers yet?

Nope, still just taking Aleve.  Taking 4 pills a day of it 220 mg each pill.  Seems like it will take an act of congress to get anything else.

Phil

With the amount of pain you are having it should not be that difficult to get a prescription pain medication. That's just rediculous.

Some doctors are like that though. Thank goodness mine isn't.

Phil:  Has your doctor prescribed prednisone for you?  That really helped with my pain and swelling (although you said you didn't have swelling).  Good luck to you.  Hopefully the increase of mtx will make a difference, but in the mean time you need some kinda pain med.  Just tell your doctor everything you feel and that you need some pain relief med.

Susan

Yeah, I'm on 10 mg of predisone per day, I was on 20mg per day and with the exception of my left foot, had no pain.  But since I went down it hurts like hell all the time.  Only swelling that I have is on my left foot of course (been swelled for 3 months now) and my left pinky.

Phil
