Insurance help for someone not insured | Arthritis Information

I know this has been discussed before but I did a search and cannot find what I'm looking for.  I have a friend who does not have insurance but is in need of medical treatment.  Does anyone have any links to agencies that can help him?

Thanks :)

County hospital, University Teaching centers are you're best bet. If you go to the ER in most states, they cannot refuse to treat you even if you don't have insurance. I don't know how they handle the billing but I think he can apply for patient assistance with the hospital.

Depending on his income and how critical it is that he gets immediate care, he can try applying for state medical insurance.

Hope that helps.

Tracy,

Be sure to contact the drug companies directly also.   Many offer either extreme discounts on the drugs or will supply them to patients in need.

Hi, TrainingGirl.  I'm failrly new to this site and haven't posted much.

You didn't say the state where your friend lives, but in Alabama at present there is Open Enrollment with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, I heard on the radio.  I think it sis only being offered for a couple of months, and the offer only comes up every couple of years. like this.  That is how our family got health insurance a few years ago and we still have it with BCBS of AL.

Perhaps your friend could give Blue Cross Blue Shield a call in her state to see if they would be offering anything like this because Open Enrollment is direct and not through an agency.  Blue Cross could also tell your firend what agencies handle their regular health insurance policies also.  Or, she could just move here right now. LOL.

Good luck
