Hi all,

I've read other posts about "gelling".  And I am having problems where my feet and ankles almost lock-up when I'm sitting.  Then I get up,  they feel frozen in place and the first steps almost feel like they are breaking apart, then I walk for a while and they finally "work" themselves into "normal".

The more active I am .......then sit......the worse it is.  The less active the better it is.

Is this gelling?

If it isn't, what is it?  Anyone else out there experience this?

I go back to the RD in 3 weeks and I don't know what to call this newest body problem.

Thank you for your help - you guys are the BEST!

Ok~ Now I see it.

Hi Jodi:

What you are describing sounds like 'gelling' to me.  What happens to me is exactly the same.  For example I just came back from sitting in a movie theatre for two hours and when the movie finished, I couldn't stand up.  My knees gelled and it felt like I had to break through ice just to stand up.  My pain was almost unbearable for the first 20 seconds and then I slowly move and the pain gets better pretty quickly.  Within two minutes I am walking like normal.  I've had this for a few years and even with pain meds, I still feel this kind of pain.

I believe this is all happening because inflamation is taking place and disease is not under control.

Hope this helps.

When I have been sitting for more than a few minutes and try to get up, I can't straighten my back to stand erect and I walk all stooped over for a while until I adjust. I am extremely stiff. Also, I have to hold onto a table ar something to pull myself up. I don't know what causes it but I think it has to do with fluid accumulating in the joints. Movement seems to correct the problem.I have never heard the term "gelling" used to describe it before, but I definatly have the same problem.I think my brain has 'gelled'I don't have that problem all of the time, but there are times when it will strike out of the blue. Happened with my hip a week ago. I've never had hip trouble before, but all of a sudden, I couldn't put any weight on it & I had intense pain. After about an hour, it went away.
