Am I going mad? | Arthritis Information

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all the repliezs I ad to my last post.  I've been away cause I was in hospital due to getting MRSA in the wound from my recent surgery.

Whilst I was in there, I saw a physio and a rheum.  They were brill!  The rheum admitted there is something going on but said she didn't think that it was RAas the joints aren't hot and they aren't behaving like RA" whateverthat means.  They are swollen though.

She's ordered some more blood tests and is gonna do a bone scan and see me in 4 weeks.

Can anyone give me any ieas?   I can't find anything on the net that explains what's going on, and rheum was non commital about everything so I'm worried that I'm just going mad!

Thanks for your help

Carys

Hi Carys

You're not going mad! There are over 100 different types of arthritis and they all have their own idiosynchrasies... RA (rheumatoid) and OA (osteoarthritis) are the most common types, but your rheumatologist may need more info before he/she can put a name to the type (or types!) you have. Some examples of other types of arthritis are: lupus (SES), psoriais arthritis (PsA), reactive arthritis/Reiter's Syndrome (ReA - that's what I have), ankolysing spondilitis (AS) and gout. Some types of arthritis can't even be categorised, or are a mix of several types, and are referred to as 'undifferentiated spondyloarthrophy' (UsP).

Do some google searching on these and you will find out heaps! At least you seem to have a good rheumatologist, who is doing all the right initial tests.  For some of us, getting a diagnosis comes slowly and joint damage can happen in the meantime...

All the best,

P.S: If you post in the 'Rheumatoid' section, you'll get more replies :)
