MTX and infertility/sterility | Arthritis Information

I have read literature saying that methotrexate (MTX) for RA causes sterility.  Even after dc'ing the drug.

I don't know if that's only at higher doses.  Docs say not to worry, but at 31, I can't NOT worry about it.

Anybody with RA find evidence that MTX causes infertility (permanent, not temp)??

I had no problem with the mtx. I went off it for 6 months before trying to
become pregnant and was pregnant a month later. That's obviously
faster then most couples so maybe we were just lucky.

BeckyThanks, Becky.  Did you quit the remicade too?  Mind telling me how much MTX you were on before you stopped it?  Congrats on your pregnancy!Actually, he is now almost 3 (Oct. 30th) but I'll take the congrats anyway
cause he is a cool kid.

I wasn't on Remicade then. I was taking Enbrel. I did stop it just to be
safe. Dr. said that there weren't a ton of studies done on Enbrel and
pregnancy so I didn't want to take any chances. I was on 20mg of Mtx
and that is what I currently take. Currently I receive the Remicade every 6
weeks. I did take prednisone throughout the pregnancy. Really, it was
pretty much a problem free pregnancy. He was born 5 weeks early and
prednisone is known for cause early delivery but my family history was
probably more to blame. All my siblings and myself were premies and so
was my sister's little one. Why go the full 9 months when you can do it in
8? Just kidding...

BeckyGood to know.   As I posted, I've read that Enbrel can actually help during pregnancy (UK study), unlike MTX.  I am glad everything worked out with the pred during your preg.  :)
