Recovery after hip replacement | Arthritis Information

I had a hip replacement on July 17th and I have just past my seventh week of recovery.  I have really good days but for the past few days have really been hurting.  Is this a part of the recovery process?  I have followed all my hip precautions and not think that I have done any harm to it.

What's been your experience?

I am sorry to hear your are still having pain.  I hope it clears up quickly.

I would be very interested to hear about your operation, as there is a hip replacement in my near future.  I am 47 and my doctor wants me to wait as long as possible, since the replacement will only last for a certain amount of time, and would likely need to be done again.

Do you mind telling us about your experience with surgery?

I was diagnosed with JRA as a baby, and both hips replaced at 18 years old. I have actually had a few different surgeries and know that the healing process can vary. The most important thing to do is be patient, follow all the doctor's orders, and by all means be careful. Any kind of fall or anything like that would probably set ya back a bit if you are early in the recovery stage. I know it took a couple months before I felt 100% better after getting my hips done. I am 29 now, and they seem to be doing just fine for now, but I know I'll have to have it done again eventually. Definitely not looking forward to that! But surgery is never fun and there is bound to be some pain for a while. But if it's too bad, or lasts too long, then always discuss it with the doc. As my doc always says, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease."

Wish the best to both of you and hope your surgeries and recoveries go well,

Jesse
