Hello! I am a fourth-year Industrial Design student at the University of
Alberta, and I am doing a project on redesigning handheld, household
objects.
I have a grandmother with arthritis, and I want to design something that
is easy for her to use - but she won't give me any suggestions. Does
anyone have a suggestion as to an object that could use a good overhaul
- scissors, kettles, or anything that someone without arthritis might not
think of?
Thank you very much!
A can opener that is easy to use would be a godsend. And same for a bottle opener.
Good luck, what a fun project. And thoughtful of you to think of your gran!
Hi Claire
How about a device to help us cut our toenails? Most clippers/scissors are too small and require us to be able to bend our knee. I HATE having to ask my husband to cut my toenails :)
Thanks for your suggestions! After a lot of input, I've decided to work on an ergonomic doorknob turner; I can only find two on the Internet. Do you have any experience with these, or any suggestions?
Thanks again! I want a really long handled safety razor for shaving my legs. It should have a good sized comfortable handle, and be 12-18 inches long (maybe the length could be adjustable!). That sure would make it easier to shave when my back and hips don't want to bend!
