Mt first post ever to a message board so please excuse any indiscretions.
I'm in my early 40's and been suffering gout attacks for about 4 years. They have progressed from the toes to ankles and one knee so my Dr recently put me on Allopurinol. About the same time blood tests revealed highish levels of iron in my blood something that is not known in my family.
I understand retention of iron is often caused by a genetic problem but have read Allopurinol has caused this in some animal testing? I am determined to get off gout medication as I am also on enough meds for blood pressure, cholestoral and have type 2 diabetes.
I'm very interested to hear from others who may also have an iron problems and are users of Allopurinol. Thank you.
