I am a first time poster ever on a discussion board.  I have been dealing with PMR since February, but not diagnosed until June!   My rheum doc prescribed 15 mg for 6 weeks,(prednisone) with a taper to 12.5 for six weeks and 2 weeks into the taper I have my blood work checked to verifty if I can continue with the taper.   I hope so.  I am a bit achy in all the typical areas, some days are better than others.. and it depends on what I have done in the day or two prior.  I am 52, I find there are number of us with PMR in that age bracket.

I am upset about the puffy face.  15 mg of pred does not seem like a high dose to me., but I guess it's enough to cause weight gain.  I am very careful as to what I eat...to minimize the gain...A lot of people have told me it is water retention.  At what dose will this subside?  My food intake is much less now that before PMR..and I am not exercising nearly as much I used to.  I was sooooooo active, walked 1-1-4 hours  3 or 4 nights a week, took Pilates and an exercise ball class on the weekends....

I am so frustrated.

Wonderful feeling to have found this board and know that other people can relate.

Any answers as to when I can see the weight come off will lift my spirits...

"Puffy"  Gee, where did that come from?

im a 51  year old male  with the symptoms i hope u get betterHi Puffy, I'm a first timer too.  I started 20 mg of prednisone in Feb and am now at 10.  I noticed a difference in the puffy face thing when I got under 12 1/2.  Not great, but I almost looked like me again. Also helps to stay away from salt, alcohol, fat and all that. Sounds like you're already doing all that.  Hang in there.  You might see some relief soon.

Thank you Philip an B Rich.

I am doing my best to stay away from salt, fat, it's difficult giving up my glass of wine...and so far I have not.

Thank you for the words of encouragement of possibly seeing a reduction in the puffy face when I am under 12. 5, which will be mid October.

I saw my primary doc today for a sinus infection....never used to get those. She treats PMR pts, and was surprised that I have it so young...I mentioned these boards to her anddhave found quite a few of us around 50 ish as compared to the 70 ish year olds being more likey.  Also, she said to count on being on pred. for a year,, of course, at lower doses as time goes on.

Thank you for your posts!

Janet  aka puffy

I know, I miss the wine too.  Sometimes I have a couple anyhow. but it makes me look even more like a Panda bear the next day.  And my eyes really swell.  Have a great weekend!  Someday we're gonna be pretty againwhen this is all over.
