Prednisone side effects | Arthritis Information

Hello,

Has anyone had acne side effects from prednisone? Well I have white heads all over my face which have been there for about 3 months now. Ive tried Proactive and it didn't work. I went to the dermatologist and he said it may be from the prednisone. I've been on a low dose for about 3 years now. Why am I breaking out from it now? You'd think I would have had a break out in the beginning. Im using retin-a and it does nothing but dry my skin out. The Dr. says it takes about 2-3 months for it to start working. I hate this!!!! Has anyone else had this problem? And does it go away??? Is there another treatment I could be using?   Im tired of people not looking in my eyes when the talk to me anymore, they just look at my face!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've struggled with acne all my life.  Yes, the prednisone will make it worse, why its just now happening after all these years, I don't know.  I do very well with the Nutrogena products.  I use the nutrogena acne face wach, its in a clear pump and the wash itself is an orangey color.  Than I use a moisturizing toner by Nivea.  Then I use Nutrogena anti wrinkle anti blemish cream all over my face and a light moisturizer by nutrogena.  A few times a week, I use the nurtogena anti wrinkle anti blemish scrub to keep it exfoliated.

The prescription retina creams made me face so dry and peeling, it was terrible!  Be sure to wash your face every morning and night and wear good make-up that won't clog the pores any further.

A great makeup to try is Bare Essentials.  It doesn't clog your pores and isn't oily.  It's a fine powder you apply.  Doesn't feel like you're wearing makeup at all.

Yes - I've struggled with acne with Prednisone.  I have recently been tapering off and my skin is clearing.  Although I think the Methotrexate also contributes to my acne.  I used the Proactiv products.  They are not 100 percent effective, but am afraid to switch at this point.

This is extremely frustrating!  34 with acne!  I try to wash my face twice a day.  That tends to help a bit.  Also keep drinking lots and lots of water, try to avoid caffeine and other "bad for you" products like sugars and such.  That helps to clear the skin too.

I've never gotten word from a doc that there is anything that can clear it totally besides just not taking the darned things.  Poop.  :(

I have been very lucky to always have very clear skin. When I
go on prednisone, however, I break out terribly. I get it on my
face, back, and chest. No amount of washing seems to help. I
hope you find something that works for you!

I am not usually on pred. 3 years ago my nice clear skin got inflamed and lumpy on one cheek bone - kind of looked like acne but nothing ever came to a head. About 3 months after that the other check bone area started up. It continue to worsen over about 18 months.

Then I broke out in hives from Bextra  -  Dr put me on 20 mg per day of pred for 10 days. My skin calmed down a lot from the pred!.

The dermatologist biopsed the lumps and said they are milia.(a comedone/whitehead like thing) I still think they are some drug thing caused by either bextra or arava or remicade but all my docs say NO.

Topical steroids do not help! I have tried chem peels, photo-facial, pro-active, spent a ton of $$. Still have bumps, and new ones forming but no longer inflamed.

Comments.. Help? Anybody else have milia that won't quit.

When we talk about acne, is it TRUE acne? Or are we talking a lot of redness and small bumps. Anyone heard of Roseatia(sp??) It's a kind condition that can be triggered by medicines or **POOR IMMUNE SYSTEMS!** haha go figure? My aunt had it for YEARS and always thought it was just acne. Her dermatologist finally gave her a nifty cream, and honestly she looks like a new woman. Though at the time, she was perfectly healthy, so we should have KNOWN something wasn't right, turns out she was having severe thyroid problems (hence the rosiatia being caused by an immune disorder) Just a thought...

I seem to have a lot of those...haha

I used to take Pred for my UC years ago. It seemed to give me bad acne when I had high doses and for a longre period of time, unfortunatley the only way it went away was when I stopped the pred and had surgery... However I have already ordered proactive incase I have to go on pred again. Try drinking lots and lots of water and natural foods to flush the pred out! It might help.. It seems that pred is an evil but good med. I cant decide if its worth taking or not worth taking. [QUOTE=marian]
