I get their newsletter, I don't know if any of you do...but I JUST remembered something very interesting from a couple of months ago.

In research the AF decided to go in on a chromosome/gene testing thing that the Diabeates Foundation and the Thyriod Foundation were doing....

They pinpointed the SPOT on our genes/chromosomes(i forget which one) where immune disorders occur. Basically, the spot thats making your body screw up. It just all depends on how it's coded to WHICH immune disorder you get. Sooooo that means in some respects all immune disorders are related (duh, we knew that)

What we DIDN'T know, is what they found in their studies mostly by accident. 90% of their study patients showed signs on the genetic/chromosome level of TWO immune disorders. So their Drs started treating them, lo-and-behold they were HUNDREDS of times better.

The newsletter actually urged people with a diagnosis of only one immune disorder who seem to be getting little or no relief from their current treatment, to let their Dr know, to see if they could be tested for other disorders.

Just wanted to share! :)

arriscolwell38975.7499884259Katie,  I am certain that I have more than one.  My doctors like to just throw it in as fibromyalgia (I don't think either give fibro much creedence ) I wish it were narrowed down to something more specific.  I have definite muscle weakness, stiffness and pain.  We are not talking joints.  If the muscle pain went away, it would be a lot easier to cope with the ra.

Know what you should do? Google or WebMD *just* immune disorders. Find their symptoms and check-mark the ones you have many many symptoms of. Then go kick your feet to be tested for all of them. Hah. WebMD is my secret lover...

Very interesting information. I read the article. However, I've already been diagnosed with multiple immune disorders. I'm still waiting for that vast improvement.

Maybe one is still out there hiding. You think?

Good info though, thanks for sharing it.

Hmmm, very interesting information indeed. Is the information available online at their website?

I'm sure it is, though I'll be damned if I know how to find it...I ALWAYS end up lost on there...I'm so hopeless..haha If you want, drop me an e-mail reminder, and I'll try to find the newsletter. I keep them all, I'll forward you a copy. Deanna, I don't see why there couldn't be another one hiding. Makes sense to me. There are so MANY. :(Yeah, that is interesting, but kind of scarey. I mean, I have JRA, and that is all I really hope to deal with. But waht if I have lupis, or some other immune dissorder. I never thought of that. And I never thought that maybe one dissorder might over-shadow the other, therefore leaving the other undiscovered and untreated. Definitely something to ask my RD about at my next appointment. Although, last summer, a tumor was discovered in my lower back (long story). So it turned out to be a b-cell lymphoma, and I know your lymphnodes have to do with your immune system. Anywho...I was diagnosed, went through the chemo therapy, and got rid of the tumor. Hopefully that counts as another immune system disorder, 'cause I don't know how much more I can handle. ENOUGH ALREADY!Wow, yeah I would hope that counts too. LoL But it really does all make sense. I keep screaming that my b/f has fybro, or something else. He has all these weird symptoms that don't fit crohn's.(which is also an immune disorder) The biggest examples are that his potassium and magnesium are always, and I mean ALWAYS low when they test him. Sometimes they look at him and go "I don't even understand how it can be that low and you're walking around" Potassium and Magnesium are big players in fybro. Meh. What can you do? Kick and scream until someone pays attention!!! :)These immune disorders do go together. I had skin cancer and then 2 months later got diagnosed with RA. Before that, the diagnosis had been OA and fibromyalgia( which I still have) Next they added Sjogren's syndrome to the list. There's still the possibility of more since I was diagnosed with endometriosis and severe allergies and unexplaind hearing loss. I think there is definite correlation between the autoimmune diseases. If you have one, you probably have many. Which is where I get scared. Cause I have one. And 80 million random symptoms of all kinds of crazy crap in any given week. And no health insurance on top of it! Can we say FUN? But whatever I have, it can't be that bad, cause I still run amuck pretty good. Sometimes I wonder if not knowing is keeping me healthier. That sounds so stupid, yet somehow makes so much sense in my head...My blood tests say I have no immune disorder at all ? Could that be from the meds ?Thanks for sharing. Good info. I have an appt. with a
new RD on thrusday and I'm going to ask her if she
can check for other things. tam, sure, but then again I don't blood test as sick either. LoL And trust me, I am. It would be much more than just a blood test they would need to do. If you have other symptoms that don't seem to get any better, or seem to have no relation to RA, just make sure to talk to your Doc about them, and let them know that it bothers you. They can test in other ways, for other things.

Yeah, I know I don't need a blood test to tell me that I have problems. lol
