Shouldn’t MTX start to work by now? | Arthritis Information

I just took my 13th or 14th (can't remember) dose of MTX, shouldn't it be working by now?  I mean I don't really feel any different than I did before I started taking it.  Still stiff, sore and painful in everything, every day.  A couple of my fingers have been swollen and it hasn't went down in quite awhile.  I would think there should be some relief.  I know I've posted a lot on this, but getting desperate. Beginning to wonder if its really RA or something else, and if I can eventually get into a good doctor maybe I will learn more.

MTX 7.5 mg for 7 weeks, then 15 mgs last 7 weeks.

Phil

I started noticing a difference around the second month.  If you've been on it for 14 weeks, you should feel better in some way I would think.  Maybe mtx isn't right for you or maybe the doc has to add something else to the mix along with mtx.  Just a thought.  I noticed in another post you are changing RA doctors.  Hopefully, the new one can give you some definite answers.  Keep us posted.

If it isn't making you sick; that's a great thing!! Means you can tolerate it. BUT: I'd think it would start helping my now though. I imagine your doctor will increase it again on your next visit. 17.5 or so. It's funny how just one more of those little pills will help.

I take 25mg but I also take Humira weekly as well. By the time I got to 17.5mg (I think it was) my doctor add Humira.

I did have spells in there though where I responded really well to MTX....so I'm not sure Phil. I hope you find a good combination soon. I know you are getting frustrated!

It took about 4 months for me to notice real improvement and only after the dose was somewhat higher than you're taking.Possibly by adding something like plaquenil and upping the mtx as well might bring you some relief.  I found that for me, the mtx works better when something else is added to it.
