I can understand how you feel about shortness of breath.  I've found that whe I over do the least bit I feel like I just can't get enough air.  The only thing I know to do when that happens is to sit down and rest for a few minutes or prop myself up in bed and take a little break from what ever I was doing. I, too, get tired very easily and I have to rest more than I did before I got PMR. This is all rather new to me also. I was just dianoised in June, 2006, and I am having to learn as each day goes by.  I had never heard of this disease until by Rhemy told me I had it.

Please try to hang in there and relax and just get plenty of rest and listen to what your body tells you to do. Keep posting.  This is a great place to come to to get information and find out how others are coping with their PMR.

I hope you are having a better day today.

I too am on prednisone at 19 mg./day.  Since I started the prednisone my symptoms have been helped greatly.

BUT I began to have heart irregularity (Atrial Fibrillation) last January sending me to the hospital 3 times for a very irregular and rapid heart rate.  I have done some study about prednisone and it can cause heart irregularity.  I too experience shortness of breath when I am having my heart flare ups.  I encourage you to see your doctor to evaluate your cardiac status.

The drugs that help this conditions also have some very strong side effects which can couse their own problems.

Hi, I was diagnosed with PMR in March at a time when I was taking meds for knee pain and through an orthoscopic procedure on the right knee--the PMR was masked by the knee condition & it took a post-op follow-up for the surgeon to say that, no, the pain I was feeling in my joints and arms and shoulders generally, and my fatigue, and my windedness, and the general inability to do much was not from too many meds or too few or the knee--he suggested checking out PMR--it was diagnosed and they started me out on presdinon 50 mg a day. My fatigue and windedness went away completely but now that I am being weaned off of it (30 mg total) some fatigue and the shortness of breath are coming back. I often feel that I just am not taking in enough air. otoh my sense is that a high dose of prednisone is just not sustainable for too long--side effects too toxic and the body builds up very unhealthy dependencies. But for me, it was not a side effect of the prednisone but happened after I cut back. Best of luck and strength.
