Is it really PA? | Arthritis Information

HI,

I have been suffering terrible, dibilitating joint pains for about 7 years. I've had 2 knee surgeries... did not help my knee. I just got back from an Rhuemotologist who said I likely have PA. The only Psoriasis symptoms I seem to have beside the joint pain is some psoriasis behind my ears, thats it! Does that make sense????

Thanks,

Sebastian

Keep in touch.

Hi Mel,

Thanks for the reply. I have not taken any meds, its the first I heard that I probably have this and the rummy prescriber Humira injections. I hate the pain of PA but have done some reading on HUmira and admit I'm a bit nervous about introducing this stuff into my system. Oh, but the pain!

COme to think of it, after reading your post, I had chx pox shortly before my problems started 7 yrs ago. First there was chronic knee pain, 2 arthros no help. The a bunch of other joints started hurting and I have the scaffing skin behind my ear. Rahes on genitals as well. No toe nail issues.

I guess it feels good to at least know what I might have and knowing that I can take something for relief. I've been used to just takeing Aleve for relief but now I'm going from an OTC NSAID to injections!!!

A bit scary...

Any thoughts and experience appreciated...

Well, I gave myself my first shot of HUmira today and really wasnt bad at all. On the way to the dr's office I was having second thoughts becuase of the risks of serious diseases: cancer, lymphoma, but my doctor told me those were irsks are mostly associated with having the condition and perhaps not so much the humira.

Any thoughts? Also, whern will I feel better?

Hi,

One thing to note, it's not unusual to only have a tiny patch of psoriasis (or even none at all) with the joint pain. There are always side effects with any treatment and they have to tell you about them even if there is a million to one chance of you developing them. I am on a combination of methotrexate and infliximab and the full list of possible side efects is frightening but you should be monitored by your medical team...

I have PA but no P.  Am in the 20% group of people who exhibit no P.  I was very hesitant to begin Remicade but did my research, read the research studies and talked to everyone on the forums.  I chose quality of life.  I'm 62 years old and I want the next years to be quality years.  I want to be able to walk and do the wonderful things that I like.  When I'm 75 years old I want to be able to dance.  That's why I chose to take DMARDS and biologics. I also chose to do the biologics because PA pain sucks.

 Hi keep

I have to say i have probably had it for several years and infact have had psoriasis for twenty years on my knees and elbows.People used to vacum a lot when i visited...

I fully understand your concerns regarding the use of medication but also look @ diet in the control your symptoms and relaxation therepy. This was a great help to me in dealing with the psoriasis flare up, which in turn helped the psoriatic arthritis.

you will through time find what works for you... meantime enjoy life and if you have a bad day, remember  the next one will be better.

best wishes David.

Also another thing that helps clear up psoriasis  is using a tanning booth, sounds crazy but it helps to clear up your psoriasis very well.  another trick for helping the scaleys is olive oil.  You rub olive oil into the areas of psoriais before dressing after a shower, I usually do this in the evening and wear old pjs because it can be a bit messy. I have had psoriasis on and off all my life and found out I have pa about 4 to 5yrs ago and probably even longer since most drs are not familiar with it, except for rds.  It sucks to have this because not only can it affect your joints, it can affect the soft tissue, we not only deal with pain of the muscles, and joints, we deal with our skin and scalp looking like crap!

Hope your good.

David.

Found another trick makes the scalp feel real good Paul Mitchell's tea tree shampoo it smells great makes the scalp feel good and so much money from each bottle sold helps to keep the rainforest going.  I usually do an olive oil treatment for about 10 minutes on the scalp then wash my hair with this shampoo makes my scalp feel wonderful!!!   meme
