Does anyone have hot flashes related to RA.  I've been through a two-week flare with the usual pains (wrists, feet, hands, etc) but I also have these intense moments (10-15minutes) where I start to sweat.  I've take my temperature and it was normal.  My wife thinks its from my prednisone pack I took last week, but I had these bouts before and now after the pack.

Susan

Yep. I hadn't had a hot flash in months and as soon as I started on pred they came back in full force

I used a very short Prednisone pack - started on Tues 20 mg/Wed 20mg/Thur 20mg/Frid 20 mg/Sat 10mg/Sun 5mg.  I still feel like I have a temperature. Very strange.

What dosages does everyone out there who takes Prednisone packs, take?  My RD gives me a prescription and allows me (within parameters) to take small packs as I need them.  I know the long-term damage and I write down the amounts and the time frame and then go over them with RD.  It used to be that 20 mg for 1-2 days worked just fine.  This last time it seemed to take longer. Can you build up an immunity to prednisone?

Lots of questions.  Sorry.

Evidently you can build up a resistence to the Prednisone. Several people have mentioned that. I have found that just going up 1-2 mg on an extremely bad day is enough to get me through.

It's been a long time since I've done a big taper which I think is 40 mg for 3-4 days, then 30 for 3-4 days, then 20, again for 3-4 days, and then taper back down. I cannot get below 11 mg a day. The lowest I've been at is 7.5 mg. I do not like the higher doses as they make me very weepy and my emotions are completely out of control.

I don't know that you are necessarily building up a resistance. It is possible that you just had a worse flare. Most people here have really worked hard to get of the prednisone. I wish I could get there.

Oh, I can tell when I am inflamed. I feel hot and sick to my stomach, weak and in so much pain. The fatigue also sinks in. I don't see much inflammation in my hands or feet. My knees are always swollen from OA. I find that when I am having a particularly painful period then I also have hot, sweaty flashes.  I am a 50 yo female so I thought it might be related to menopause but there is definitely a correlation to the flashes and flare-ups.  I do not use prednisone r/t concurrent diagnosis of osteoporosis.  I take Humira weekly and ibuprophen PRN. I do the pred packs that come in the little package that I have Danny push the pills out of for me lol.  You start at 24mg and taper down to 4mg.  On top of that I am on a 5mg maintenance dose which I think is too low.  I can't use Prednisone due to OA and still get the hot flashes so I think it is the RA.

Dear Justoday, That a great name as I've about decided with this stuff we need to live our lives JUST-TO-DAY. I think like the posts who believe it could be both the Prednisone and the RA.

I haven't had those sweats for about a month, I'm still taking Pred (about the same amount), but I'm also taking methotrexate and remicade, so maybe my RA is being reduced in it's attack on my system.?? Just guessing....

had an unreal experience at the remicade infusion session today, but I'll put that on another post.

Thanks for this topic, Sarah

I've been having the "sweats" for several months now, nearly every day.  They're worse at night when I drench the sheets! I thought it might be the prednisone (I take 10 mg a day) but I really don't know.  I also have a constant cough & lot of sinus drainage that I can't seem to get rid of.  Anyone have that too? Well, well, well...isn't that just peachy?

I thought it was just my hormones, but maybe that's what's going on with me too...I'll ask my RD next Friday.

Gotta put my "two cents in".

I haven't taken pred for about a year. I have night sweats and day sweats. It's embarrassing. The temp is 50 degrees and I sweat like crazy. SO< I think it is the disease itself.

This is an up-date to when I first replyed to this post. Back then, I was just starting pred, and my hot flashes had just started back again so, I thought they were related. But I stopped pred after a few weeks and the hot flashes have continued so I'm concluding that for me, my flashes are mostly from menopause and possibly a little from other meds I take.
