Give us some of your everyday tips for dealing with RA & life.

I just recently bought a bigger and better crock pot and that is how I am going to start cooking most of my meals. I do not cook much as I do not have a stove, plus we eat at in-laws, because hubby will not eat no one elses cooking but his moma's and his own and fast food. So, maybe me cooking in the crock pot will help him to want to eat my food and get him to stop depending on his mom to cook for him, the woman has enough on her aggenda then worrying about if he is going to get fed.

Plus, I also have been wanting more than what is just in the frozen food section, and want some foods with more taste and a variety! I am tried of eating the same foods week after week. This way I can have a new meal every other day.

Ok I know some are wondering what a crock pot has to do with RA

I also like a crock pot; but it's so aggrevating to clean up. I'm going to look for those new crock pot liners and see if those make it easier.

You can easily throw some stuff in the crock pot before leaving for work and WAM; the house smells like Sunday when you come home.

Yes; Joonie the crock pot is an excellent solution for you. Good Luck. HEY; and if your husband doesn't like your cooking you and the kids can have it for lunch and snacks. Just make something you'd like.

Yes, Lovie the crock pot liners are the BOMB!! Since they have introduced them I have been using them. You just cook and when it is time to clean up you just throw out the liner. Hubby usually takes the liner with the left over jucies out to the dogs and pour on their dog food for added flavor.

And you do not even have to clean your crock pot as it is already clean! You might have to wash the lid, but that is better than a whole 5 quart crock pot that is HEAVY!

Hubby did not like my steak teriyaki

For Thursday I am going to make a 3lb pot roast. I love the red potatoes!! I might been get some carrots so MIL can eat some of it.

omg. pot roast. no one understands my obsession with pot roast. the last time we went to golden corral, they were out, and justin was sure i was going to call a manager. hahahaha its the only beef i dont get mad at, cause i can chew it so well! lol

I think I can live off of just eating the red potatoes and pot roast

One week I made pot roast 2 times! The 1lb pot roast with 5lbs of red potatoes only lasted me a day and half and that was because I was holding back on eating it! No one else in the house likes pot roast, except son, but he does not eat much, he likes the potatoes and I am greedy when it comes to the potatoes LMAO!! But I do share if it is lunch time. Son just likes to eat when he sees someone else eating. and most times, it is me eating!

aaahh you're torturing me! haha i can eat pot roast sandwiches, pot roast in a bowl w/everything, just the meat, just the potatoes, pot roast in a pita, AHH its just so GOOD.

Living alone means meals are a chore. Have trouble preparing, then mouth ulcers from the meds make it hard to eat. Losing weight.

Yes, get tired of prepared food that tastes the same - "if that's the chicken I want the lamb. If it's lamb I want the chicken." Meals have become a challenge. Lots of breakfast food, prepared fruit with ice cream, cake with cream, frozen pizzas, some frozen meals, ham on toast (lots of things on toast.) Take away Chinese. And the occasional multi vitamin pill for health.

Have switched to elastic waist track pants because jeans and slacks too hard. Shoes that zip instead of lace. Loose fitting jumpers are easier to pull on and off. Sloppy joes for winter instead of shirts - no buttons. Use four pillows for reading in bed, only sleep on the same one every night so only one pillow case to wash. Also some of those gadgets for popping vacuum seals, unscrewing lids etc. They kinda work.

Lightweight shopping bags with longish handles to place over "bad" hand and arm. Walking stick with curved handle so it doesn't slip off a shop's counter top. Still learning, but hope something I've said will be of help.

Oh, please stop it with the pot roast - yum, yum. Haven't had one for six months. Maybe you have all inspired me and I'll make the effort.

Hahaha! We're sad...

I have an actualy tip. Stay away from cash drawers that have spring loaded money holders. I won't go into details, let's just say I now have a bruise on my finger that looks like Japan.

Just stay way.

Far away.

Poor Japan bruise...

Man, I have not had a good pot roast since i moved out of my parents house and in with my fiance in June! I love a good roast. And the thing is, my fiance hates to cook and rarely cooks anything she can't just toss in the microwave, but she has told me that she can cook a good roast if we had something called a "nesco"? I guess that's like a crock pot, only bigger and more rectangular.

So anyway, I do most of the real cooking these days. And you know what I like? Aside from all the easy frozen foods you can just pop in the oven or microwave, I love fried food. I know it's not good for you, but I don't care. French fries, tator tots, chicken, and one of my all-time favorites, fried mozzarella sticks. Mmm mmm mmm! And my fiance's mom gave us this deep fryer things a while back. That thing rocks! I use it all the time.  You just turn the dial to the right temperature that the grease is supposed to be. Let it heat up. Then toss your fries or whatever in. And then, BAM! In like two or three minutes, it's done. The funny thing is, I never actually fried anything before we got that, so I can't imagine frying food any other way. lol I really need to thank my future mother-in-law for that one.

Well, now I'm hungry, gonna raid the kitchen, bon apetite!

Ok, here's some actual tips now, off the cooking subject. There are all kind of adaptive devices you can get out there to help you out. I have all kinds of things, like long-handled brushes and combs, a sock-aid thingy to put my socks on with, dressing sticks, used to have a shower seat, but our shower in the new appartment is too small for that, just have to stand, and elastic shoe laces, so i can just slip my shoes on and off. Very convenient.

More tips: I like to keep a glass of water by my bed, so I don't have to get up in the middle of the night if I get thirsty.

I also keep my meds by my bed, so I can just sit up in the morning, take them, then just relax for a bit and let them kick in.

Get an electric toothbrush. Much easier to use and cleans your teeth better anyway. And those little floss pics are much easier to use than just regular floss out of the little dispensers. (although, I haven't flossed in quite a while, lol).

And personally, I like to wear what is most comfortable and easy to get in and out of. Would always rather feel good than look good, and don't care what anyone else thinks.

Always get plenty of sleep

Never get involved with a woman who has a battleship tattoo

Never play cards with a guy named after a city

ok, those last couple I stole from some movie, can't remember which, but while I'm stealing tips/advice, here's some of my favorites from a song called "Get Drunk With Dignity" by Tim Cavanuagh

Don't ever go home with a woman called Moose or Vince

Don't bet that you can fit your head inside a glove compartment

Just because a bulldog licks your face, it's not neccessary  to lick him back

Stay away from drinks with names like Brain Seizure or Hippo Laxative

If a bar has  human ears nailed on the wall, don't pass out there

Try not to drool on bikers

Don't moon a nun, unless you've got a real good reason

Don't get romanticly involved with farm machinery

And avoid phrases like "That badge looks stupid" and "I can prove these shoes are fireproof"

So there you go. Words of wisdom. Pass em on.

Jesse
