Just for fun, revisiting old music | Arthritis Information

Hi Everyone,

I was listening to a song on the radio today and it brought back my teen years.  One of the first few 45's I ever bought.

I thought it might be fun to name the first 78, 45, LP or CD you bought if you can remember it.

My first 45 was Build Me Up Buttercup, much as I hate to admit it and the first LP was Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water.

Well...I'm a bit younger, so I can either tell you the first TAPE I bought, or the first CD. The first TAPE, if I recall..was Michael Jackson's Off The Wall. LOL My first CD was Ace of Base. You know....I SAW THE SIGN! AND IT OPENED UP MY EYES I SAW THE SIGN....hahah sorry to stick you with that one....have fun singing it kids..
Oh my gosh! My first 45 was 'Wedding Bell Blues';
my first album was Three Dog Night-'Golden
Bisquits'. About that same time I also bought Simon
& Garfunkel 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' and Cat
Stevens, 'Tea for the Tillerman'!! Great memories.
But now I won't sleep tonight because the Cat
Stevens 'Lisa' song is running through my head!!!

Good topic.      (I think I still have all my 45's and
albums in storage. I threw out my tapes, but one of
the first of those was Bad Company)

Alright! Now we're talkin'! This one is right up my alley. I too am a bit young to be having my first purchase being a 45, 78 or LP. Although in the past 10 years or so, i have been getting into collecting vinyl (you can get some pretty cool old stuff at certain "hippy-type" stores, which I have. And pretty much all the punk rock bands I listen to make their albums available on vinyl). But as far as my firsts, well, when I was about 7 years old, me and my bro got our first boom boxes (but we called them "ghetto blasters" back in the day) for christmas. Now we didn't actually "buy" our first tapes, cause hey, I was 7 and he was 6, so what kind of money would we have back then. lol But I remember we each got one tape with our new "ghetto blasters" on that 80's christmas morn. His was the legendary Thriller album by Michael Jackson and mine was the also legendary Purple Rain by Prince. To this day I still like Prince more than Michael Jackson. They have both gotten a little weird since then, but at least Prince doesn't have "slumber parties" with pre-pubescent boys. lol As far as the first tape I actually bought, that was a couple years later and it was Metal Health by Quiet Riot. You know, "come on feel the noise, girls rockin' boys". Loved that band. Actually got to meet them after a concert a few years back. They opened for Poison, who I've seen like 3 or 4 times. I know, I'm supposed to be this mega hardcore thrasher/punk rocker, but here I am talking about 80's pop stars and hair bands. If the punk underground types I listen to and know read this, my rep would be totally ruined. lol Actually, on that day I bought my first tape, I bought 2 others, it was at a pawn shop, so they were cheap. Those two others were Animalize by Kiss and Stay Hungry by Twisted Sister. But it was the Quiet Riot on I picked out first.

Now, when I was about 11 years old, I got a 00 shopping spree from the Make a Wish foundation (actually, my first "wish" was to be an actor, but they couldn't really do that, long story). Anyway, I had heard of these new things called CD's then, but was a little leery of abandoning the good old cassettes for some crazy disc that you couldn't even record on, at least, not then. But at my shopping spree, I decided, what  the heck! May as well go for broke and get me a new, state of the art stereo with one of those new CD players. So I checked one out. The guy there asked if I wanted to hear how good the cd player sounded, so I said sure and had him get a certain CD for me that I would like to hear and have. It sounded awsome, so I bought the stereo and the CD, and that CD was the very legendary and hands-down one of the best rock 'n' roll CD's of all time, Appetite for Destruction by Guns 'n' Roses. All those first tapes have long since been lost or worn out, but to this day, I still have that Guns 'n' Roses CD. It's completely scratched to hell and I haven't even attempted to play it in many years, but I still have it anyway.

And to Jeanne, Build me up Buttercup is a nice happy little tune, and there's nothing wrong with Simon & Garfunkle. I actually like them quite a lot. But Katie! Katie, Katie, Katie...(shaking my head) ACE OF BASE!!!!

Rock on,

Jesse

Liquid Skin38980.9785300926My first album was Jan and Dean. I was 12 and in LOVE. I still have it here somewhere. My first 45 was "This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis and the Playboys, which I got by sending in box tops off of cereal!  My first album was by the Herman's Hermits and song #3 "Henry the Eighth"  I played endlessly - my parents were ready to scream.

The very first album I purchased was Tapestry by Carole King.  Prior to my purchase my aunt had given me albums by Diana Ross and the Supremes and by the Temptations.

The first 45 I bought was "Backfield in Motion."  I do not even remember who did the song.

Hi Guys, my first 45 was a song by T-Rex, can't remember the name of it, my first album on tape was a Diana Ross album, and my first 33 record was Phil Collins. Showing my age here!!!  Can't remember the names of the records, Janie.  The memory has gone with the fibromyalgia, how embarrassing? My first album was Peter, Paul and Mary.  I bought it with the money I made from people by embroidering peace signs and such on worn out faded hippy jeans.

Rock on,

Jesse
