Be Blessed

Hey Rocxy!

I've been on Humira for about a year now, and it was and is a God sent to me.  The only problem I've had with it is the lowering of the immune system.  I developed shingles after about 8 months on it and had to stop for awhile.  But even with that I would not change a thing!

Don't take the shot in the thigh....hurts real bad....

Stomach is pretty painless!

Good Luck!

KAT

Thanks so much KAT.  Humira is just what I've been researching today.  I have to let the Dr. know next week.  Do you do your on injections?

No, No....I'm a pussy! lol

I can't even look when someone gives me a shot.....I know I have to get past that...but for now, my Mommy gives me my shots.

Did I mention, I'm 46?  I just don't like shots. lol

I use Enbrel.  Although I was afraid of the shot to begin with, I quickly got over that.  I actually look forward to the shot now.  Its usually effect, and I feel better for the next 3-4 days, then I start feeling a bit worse each day until I take the shot again.  Best wishes.

rocxy, I've been on humira for over a year and like kat, it's a godsend. I assume it's the reason I can function pretty normally. I too had a bout of shingles - but I caught it very early and had no long term problems from it.  I do my own injections, was squeamish at first, and I still feel a bit weird doing it, but it's not so bad. For the time being, I'm pleased with Humira. Good luck with your decision.

Hi rocxy.  I just had my second infusion of Remicade and it's been wonderful!  I'm taking methotrexate and Remicade.  The Remicade eventually is every 8 weeks.  I feel more safe having the infustion since I'm under the care of the infusion nurse.  I spend 2 hours reading, chit chatting and watching tv.  I feel a lot better already!  It's been a great thing!  :)

As scary as they are Rocxy, Enbrel has totally changed how I cope with disease.  Yes I am scared of the side effects.  I have never been keen on prescription drugs.  No, Enbrel does not take the ra away, but it makes a difference.  Every little bit helps and I would rather take Enbrel than mega doses of pred.  I know this is a tough decision but look how many of us take them.  I feel really empowered that I can do the injections myself.  Life is a gamble, but quality of life is so much more important that quantity. (Even though I love life, I would like a long one)   Good luck with your decision.  Thanks for all the information.....I've decided to give it a try.  Got the call today.  Getting ready to call and get started learning how to do the injections. If you do the humira, be sure to get the new prefilled PEN!!  You don't even see the needle, you just pull off two caps, press it to your thigh or tummy and push the button, it automatically injects it.  Great for all the needle phobes!  It still burns like the regular injection but its easier to do!

I've been on Humira for close to 2 years now and two months ago I switched to the quickPens myself. Michele is right; if you do go with a self inject ask for the pens....they are so much easier! My husband does mine; but it's still easier.

The only problem I've had were a few infections. When you get a sinus infection or bronchitis (Which everyone gets) it takes a little longer to get rid of it and you can't take your meds while you are sick. I'm going through that right now....but I wouldn't change a thing.

I don't think the meds made me sick....it just takes longer to get well. After a round or two on antibiotics you'll be fine and back on your meds. I start my second course tonight. Wish me luck!!

I take 25mg of MTX and Humira weekly. I choose Humira because it was supposed to be given every other week. That only lasted 6 months for me. Then I had to switch to week doses......but still no regrets.

I know it's a hard decision to make; but you won't regret it. Good Luck.
