I need advice | Arthritis Information

As many of you may know, my first appointment is tomorrow. What should I take with me to the doctor? My big fear is that he won;t listen really to my symptoms, or rather dismiss them as RA since my factor is so low. I am definately going to take my set of rings to show him how swollen I am, but what else should I do? Any advice from the pros would be appreciated.

Thanks~

Panz

Be VERY honest and detailed in your pains, swelling and whatever else is bothering you.   If you've been keep a journal with your daily pains and what not be sure to take that.   Also, be sure to take all the lab tests that you recently had (it will usually ward off another poke).

I personally had kept a journal for about 5 years now.   I print up a calendar (blank) from the computer and fill it in daily with whatever is bothering me and a pain level number ( 1-10).   It helps my doctors tremendously in seeing a possible link to things.

Good luck... and be sure to keep us posted !!!!

As I have said before, any Rheumy worth his salt will know you have RA (if you do) after they do a thorough exam.  Basically mine took one look at my hands and said,"Well it COULD be something else but it probably isnt").  I was RF Pos, but he said this even before looking over my chart.  It is a "whole picture" kind of thingy.  They will guide you with questions.  Just tell them what it is like.  The first visit took a long time.  He literally checked every one of my small joints and asked me about the larger ones.  It was pretty obvious.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

Make sure you wear comfy clothes so you won't have to
change into a gown if your doc wants to check your back, hips,
knees, etc.

Thanks for the advice. My appointment is at 1pm est- I'll check in as soon as I return.

Thanks again
