West Nile Virus | Arthritis Information

Lately I have been afraid to go with my family to take dogs for a walk in the early evening.  We have had 33 cases of West Nile Virus in our county this summer.  Being on the immune suppressants - this worries me.  Do you think I am going over board????????

Maybe....but what would you do with your time if you didn't worry?

I use lots of OFF or CuttersAint that the truth Lovie.  I need a life.  I think I got one coming up soon

S'ok roxy.....us paraniod people....we gotta stick together...

haha j/k

I dose up with bug spray when I'm out in the garden. West Nile and Lyme do scare me too. That's the last thing we need! I haven't had too many skeeter bites this summer. Not sure why. Maybe it's all the garlic I've been eating!

I don't in anyway mean to make light of your fears; they're understandable but you can't just sit back and lose another thing you love so much; Nature.

No one can promise you that you won't get the West Nile Virus Roxy; but if you are sitting in the house watching from the window while your husband and daughter walk the dog, splash in the creek and just enjoy the outdoors you are waisting valuable time with what you admit yourself is paranoid behavior. The only thing you are going to accomplish with that is to feed your depression.

I say put on lots of spray.....a long sleeve thin shirt and some pants if you are truely that worried about it. Go out and enjoy yourself. You are always the one saying you feel like life is passing you by. If you stop to think about it; you are letting life leave you behind. A lot of things are still in your control.

Lovie,  I had a friend almost die from West Nile.  She was sick over six months.  She was 58.   She did wildlife rehabilitation.  I think I will not take any chances.

I'm sorry about your friend. Only you can decide what's best for you.

I'm sorry about your friend Roxy...but something that I've noticed is that since I've been on all these wonderful meds (ha, ha) I no longer attract any bites and I used to get chewed to pieces!  I still put on the repellant with deet, but so far on bites and we've had crows dropping dead in our yard from West Nile so I'm with you on the scared thing...My husband who never gets a bite has even been bit - thankfully he is fine - but no bites for me.  Don't know if this will help you or not, but I sure hope you can get to enjoy your walks :)

I figure the mosquitoes will be gone soon.  The nights are getting colder and I am moving soooooooooon (I hope)

I just threw this thread out there.  I guess I was trying to rationalize why I am too tired for evening walks anyhow.  I like late morning
