Can someone give me some advice please?  I have been taking humira since April and have in the past 4 days got the worst flare I have had for years.

Big hugs

SallyHi Sally - you really have to tell your doc about this, okay???  There are other meds and it may take a bit to find what is just right for you, but here's hoping it won't take to long.  Hang in there.  Hugs and good vibes.Sally, I have been on Enbrel and it worked really well - until about 3-4 weeks ago.  Since then I've been on a flare that has really been difficult.  My hands, wrists and feet have been killing me. I think these drugs work differently for everyone, but it is my belief that they can loose their effectiveness over a period of time. And that time period probably changes with each individual, from months to years. I'd talk to your RD about the Humira.  I know I'm going to talk to mine about changing the Enbrel.  Best wishes.Hi Sally,

I have not taken humira, but have benn (up until
about 7 wks. ago) benn taking remicade. I still had
terrible flares during the first 6 months but finally
kicked in.

I really hope you are feeling better very soon.

Sally,

Please tell your doc you are not doing well.  That is what they are there for.  I take Humira and methotrexate to control my flares.  Maybe you need a supplemental DMARD or a course of steroids to get this flare under control.  I'm in a particularly bad one because of the weather (storm after storm for the past 3 days) and going to call my doc to see what I can do to kick this flare in it's butt.

Sally,

What is your dosing schedule with the Humira?  Are you taking it evey other week?  I was on Humira for about 5 months and by the second week I was miserable.  My rheumy changed my dose to a weekly one.  It made a world of difference.  Don't give up on the med yet.  Talk to your doctor about your concerns.

Thank you so much for all your replies!

I have my humira injection every two weeks so I think the suggestion of going for once a week is a good one!  I am also taking methotrexate, prednisolone, arcoxia (for pain) and nefedipine (for reynauds).  The problem is that when I tell my consultant I am not feeling well his first instinct is to send me to hospital for a week.  I am a single parent and this can be extremely difficult to organise so I would do anything not to go in.  The last time I went I refused to go in and had to go in as day care for three days for steriod drips.  I think you are all correct though, and I promise I will speak to my consultant about this as it is starting to worry me terribly.

Thanks once again!

Sally

I'm on humira weekly, along with placquenil, zanaflex (muscle relaxer) and vicodin.  I started the humira about 6 weeks ago and was doing better until about 2 weeks ago.  Major flare.  The rheumy said this time of year is awful for flares and that we will still flare once in a while, despite the best meds.  I'm currently on 30mg of prednisone instead of my maintenance dose of 7.5mg.  Maybe instead of going to the hospital, they could call you in some oral steroids.  The side effects are pretty crappy as I'm sure you know but they do help.  Feel better.Hi,

I just switched from Enbrel once a week to Humira every 2 weeks. I have had my second dose of Humira and I don't see where this is going to work for me. The second week is pure hell! I have spoke with the RD and he told me to hang in there and give the Humira a chance. I see he again the beginning of Dec. I see him changing the Humira to every week. Gotta go through the motions! LOL

Huggs and hoping for a pain free day for all!

Deb
I was on humira for 6 weeks and had the worst flare in about 6 months. My doctor decided to try something else, so I start Remicade on monday. I guess everyone is different. I hope you get bettter soon.
