MTP and PIP joints | Arthritis Information

Okay folks, silly question. Exactly where are the MTP and PIP joints located? I believe MTPs are in the feet and PIPs are in the hands but not sure just quite where. I thought it would be an easy thing to look up but it hasn't been.

I think you meant the MCP joint not the MTP.

The main knuckle joint is the metacarpophalangeal joint (MCP joint). It is formed by the connection of the metacarpal bone in the palm of the hand with the finger bone, or phalange. Each finger has three phalanges, separated by two interphalangeal joints (IP joints). The one closest to the MCP joint (knuckle) is called the proximal IP joint (PIP joint). The joint near the end of the finger is called the distal IP joint (DIP joint).

In the toe descriptions are similar.  It has more to do with the placement of the joint than it does with the hand and feet per se.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I was finally able to track down a friend of mine who's a nurse and got her to explain it to me.
