Hi people----I've been lurking here for a while and this is the most positive RA board I've found so far. I just registered so I could share this article with you:

It is really cool.

But killing off the immune system with chemo is totally scarey. Maybe they will figure out something a little less drastic and risky.

Hi Marian,

The risk is high with anything you choose to do.  I weighed all the risks and for me it beats the housebound existance I had.

The procedure has a 1%-3% risk of infection resulting in death but I think going under for any ole surgery is the same. I was not too fond of the chemo part but than again MTX is chemo but a long drawn out time in which to take.

Everyone always ask me if it was worth it??? 9 months post transplant, I can say this is the best I have ever felt in I don't know how many years.  The answer would be YES!!!

It is not for everyone, but for people who have run out of options it is something for consideration. Maybe down the road the procedure can be less complicated.

Going on 10 months and RA FREE and more importantly, Medicine FREE!!!

LuAnn
