HELLO   I AM NEW HERE n NEED HELP

I was diagnosed with RA along with pinched nerve on right hip and leg and now on both sides in lower buttocks area. I am in horrible pain. I have had this about  1 year with no let up.  I am unable to sleep well, cannot sit for longer than 10 to 15 minutes without excruciating pain.  My major problem is I had a horrible reaction to the last prednizone shots the pain mgnt. Doctor gave me(2 big ones on the same side).  The next day the hell and suffering started. I wont go into now but it lasted almost a month and I was unable to function. Racing heart, unbelievable sweating, high blood pressure and pulse. Lost 22 lbs. in 2 wks. time.  Anyway when I finally contacted the Dr. He seemed to be angry and told me he could not help me if I could not take this type of  shot(prednizone). He had no compassion and acted like he did not believe the reaction I had.  He has always seemed to have somewhat of an attitude problem.(at least when dealing with me) for some reason ??  But I have cried more than I ever have because of his attitude and dismissal of me. Not knowing what I could do to help myself.  I live in a very small town where there is not a lot of Doctors to choose from. He only came to his office here on fridays. It would not make sense for me to make up something about prednizone, when that could well be the only thing that could have helped me?? On the 29th day I had to go to the emergency room.  Anyway its really a long story. I wear oxygen 24/7 have a Lung diease and Parkinson. Not sure I am a candidate for surgery ??  Anyway  I also was told years ago not to take NSAIDs because I have had some very bad stomach problems.  Cant take percocet or codeine etc. Within 30 minutes it feels like I am having a heart attack and it never seems to help me anyway. I truly don't know why I cant take some medication like everyone else? Hi Lynk   Thanks so much for your reply. I am praying to find something that works.  I keep going but it would be nice not to have so much pain. I hope you consider a Yorkie. They are the most wonderful companions.  I have had 3 at one time. My ex husband has 2 of them now.  I only have an apt. so naturally 3 dogs would be out of the question. Max is so sensitive to my feelings and it seems he understands every word I say. Anyway---thanks again and have a good day.

I strongly urge you to find another rheumatologist. I'm glad to hear your GP is worth her salt.

Your reaction to the steroids sound like typical side effects to me - I have no idea why your rheumy got so huffy about it. The side effects of prednisone can be brutal. I've been on both the shots and pills and had a terrible time! Night sweats, nightmares, anxiety, mood swings, obsessive compulsive behavoir. It sounds like you had some pretty mighty blood pressure problems too!

I've been looking at Yorkies in the pet stores.

As to your RA.  I'm so sorry you have to deal with that along with your other conditions...RA is bad enough on it's own.  I'm glad you're seeing another doc..even though you live in a small town, if there's a good rheumy30 miles away, it's worth the trip every few weeks, if they can help you.  Mine is wonderful..she treats the "whole" me.

I was at the end of my rope when she finally convinced me to try enbrel.  It has been miraculous for me, with no side effects other than dry eyes, which I control with restasis.  I don't know if this drug is a possibility for you with your other conditions, but I urge you to ask about it when you see your doctor.

God bless, and best of luck to you in finding the right doctor for you!

Chara, as has been said, some people cannot tolerate prednisone and that is a known fact. That doctor was not taking any responsibility for his treatment. He should be ready with another alternative.

If your GP can get you to a pain specialist, that would help. They have a lot of options. Something that you might want to ask your doctor about is Soma and also Flexiril. They have muscle relaxants in them and can help with overall pain. Other options are available like water therapy, massage and physical therapy. Although, I'd want some of the pain under control first.

One of the things that I would suggest that they do is a MRI of your spine. If they haven't done that with all the symptoms you are having, then I would suggest that they are being negligent.

Don't give up. I know the pain is horrific and when you are dismissed that way it just makes it worse. Pain and depression go hand in hand. Sometimes, doctors must treat both but they shouldn't make you feel like you are inadequate because of it.

Keep fighting for the answers. Someone knows how to help your pain.
