Enbrel Side effects | Arthritis Information

What are the big, most noticiable side effects of Enbrel?  I go to drs. Thursday and wonder if she will start me on this  (Right now, I am on 10mg. of avara every other day).... Does it make you sunsensitive like methotrexate... Does it do anything to your hair?  Does it make you loose or gain weight? bloated or any rashes, etc.  Change your complextion,etc...

I know everyone is different but I just want to get a feeling for this before going to drs. so I am better prepared... Thanks everyone.

Donna

I did enbrel for several months than switched to humira.  No noticeable side effects other than some injection site redness.  I haven't heard that it makes your hair fall out like the mtx and it doesn't make me tired, in fact, typically I have more energy.  No changes in my complexion either, despite being on a relatively high dose of steroids as well, my face is cleared than ever!  I used to have a lot of diarrhea but the humira is actually helping with that as well.  They thought I might have crohns but now they say not likely.  Overall, the biologics seem very well tolerated from all the people that I've talked to about them.

However, despite the aggressive treatment, I'm in an awful flare but the rheumy said flares will still happen, even with the best of treatment.

So far I have only had injection site reactions and nothing else.

I have been able to go off all other meds but synthroid (for hypothyroidism) and am quite pleased my digestive track is getting a break.

Have had more energy and no nausea since going off methotrexate.

This is not to say I am not nervous about some of the serious risks like developing lupus or MS. And sometimes I act like a hypochondriac if a cough lasts too long or a paper cut takes an enormous time to heal. Can you drink on this medicine?  Probably not huh? I don't believe the biologicals are filtered through the liver as much as others meds so a couple of drinks now and than should be ok! Enbrel gave me bad bad migraines and mild site reactions. Humira gave me bad site reactions and pimples. Yipee...the best part? Neither one improved my RA...but everyone is different...I hope it is your magic bean.

I am back to vigorous exercise 6 days a week. I was a shell of a person a year ago..

Good luck to YOU!

Thanks... I hope to have it work... I am getting the sureclick injections.. I have to be strong.. I heard they sting a bit,  Hope I don't jump or anything.  I don't care what the dr.. says I am stopping the stupid Avara!   I want my hair back.  Hope the Enbrel doesn't hurt my hair.
I am looking forward to some red wine!
