I am one of those people that that many many problems with meds. My Rhemy said this last time I was there that I am on the end of the road with meds he can treat me with. And I accept that cuzz I know from many times being in the hostipal. I go into surgery with four wrist bans on me because thats how many allgerys I have I am almost in possible to treat.
So arava is my last stop. I will have to learn how to life with this awful pain and let me tell you it is bad This RA is for the birds I'll tell you. I have been so tired on these meds I just want to go to bed but I will not and I refuse for this RA to take over my life. So dessy you are from australia. How cool. I am from Wisconsin. I check this message board eveyday I come home from work and I learn alot. Nice taking to you wrtie back any time you like. Oh I am 57 Years old and a Mother of three children all grown up. I am mother of three, ages 17, 7 and 2 and on Avara every other day.  Hair thinned a bit but it has lessened since I am taking folic acid.  I may start enbrel and get off the avara.  It hasn't really worked yet but I am on every other day and I won't take it every day because I miss my red wine and told them I would take it if I could have a glass once a month.  It may take me a long while before it really helps me but I don't want to take mxt and I am scared of enbrel but I may have to take it eventually.  Avara is ok,  so give it a try.  Hope it works for you.

Hi, Angel! My history, briefly, is this - got a sudden onslaught of RA at Christmas time. Went onto high dose of prednisone until a rheumy prescribed MTX, along with folic acid and lower prednisone. This took about 3 months to kick in and was O.K. for a while. Then the RA went beserk with elevated blood markers. The rheumy then added Arava to the mix. Meanwhile a wrist splint seems to have eliminated severe elbow and hand pain. After another 3 months on MTX, Arava and prednisone I'm kinda stable - walk with a stick (bad feet and ankles) and about 70% mobility in the hand that was previously useless. No pain anywhere else. Blood markers gradually going down. It's taken 9 months for the med mix to do its thing. Had some terrible suffering along the way with nausea and all the usual thrown in. As so many here keep saying, it's very individual and you and your rheumy have to keep trying until you get the right mix. Patience is necessary and knowing you might suffer before the dawn.

I don't think I'll ever be pain free but at least it's not as bad as itwas. I believe the Arava (10mgs daily) has helped. So hang in there and here's hoping you find the righy med mix. Des

I was on the MTX for 4 months & it wasn't working, so we added the Arava - that was in July. by Sept., I was feeling better. Adding Celebrex really, really helped me. It made a huge difference. I'm not recommending it - I'm just saying, don't give up hope. Try everything. Even little adjustments can make a difference.
