celebrex | Arthritis Information

I have IBS, irritable bowl syndrome and some gastritis.  I can't take otc Advil or Motrin because they upset my tummy terrible.  I have tried indomethician and bextra and both upset my tummy.  I see many people here say they take celebrex, how is it on your tummy.  I'm on steroids, weekly humira and placquenil for the ra stuff and still have way too much swelling.  I see the rheumy Tuesday and thought maybe I might ask for the celebrex.  Can you guys tell me what side effects you have had and how well its worked for you!  Thanks!!

I'm currently taking 2x500mg Lodine and 40mg pepcid w/o trouble.

I do take previcid 30mg everyday but it seems all the nsaid drugs I've treid just give me awful abdominal pain.  I also thought celebrex was pulled but I see so many of you talk about it, is it still on the market?

Celebrex is still out there - vioxx and bextra have been pulled from market. You of course could try it,but it is almost as likely as the cox1 inhibitors to cause stomach upset all the way to bleeding ulcers.

I find nsaids to be very helpful in relieving pain and stiffness. I prefer them to narcotics because they get rid of the stiffness. Life is just easier when I am not so blasted stiff.

Maybe I'll ask for a samle of them to try for a few days to see how my tummy reacts.  I went to the er this summer because I was vomitting blood from severe gastritis caused by naproxyn.  It DID help with the stiffness but it ruined my guts!

I was taking Naproxen for a number of years until finally it had such a bad effect on my stomach that I had to chew gastric aid tablets every day.  (It also made my head feel like it was stuffed with cotton wool)

As soon as Celebrex became available in Oz I asked my rheumy to prescribe it for me.  Took a while for it to take effect, but it is definitely very much kinder on one's stomach.  Some people do have slight diarrhoea problems with it.  Am taking mtx as well.

Hope you can find a combination of meds to help you soon.

Michele,

I take Celebrex.  I like it, it works well for me.  I was on several nsaids - up to 3 times per day and they had no effect on me except bad tummy

I take 1 celebrex a day and it helps me alot.  Celebrex is safe as long as you don't take more than 400mg a day (from what I've read and RD has confirmed).  I would definately ask for a sample first.

good luck
