BIG LET DOWN | Arthritis Information

I just got a letter I did not get the tutor position.  Every other position I am finding that I am qualified for is full time.  This is the first time I have interviewed and did not get the job.  I wonder if one of my references mentioned my RA or I just looked too ragged tired when I went in there

Katie's suggestion is a good one. You'd have much more control over that. You might try the YMCA or Boys/Girls club.

You could take complete control over this and write letters to any place you are interested in, stating that you are looking for a part-time position only.

But this may just have happened because you, like me, are really not up to working right now. If that's the case, something else is going to come up.

Call and check on your SS. Maybe they'll know something. Besides you want to double check that they have your new phone number and address so that you don't miss any communications (I'm sure you've done this already, but they could screw it up.) It gives a good excuse to call.

Also, maybe you should start applying for Oregon's state aid.

Just don't give up.

I wish I could find something that I could do to earn some money. But I would find the tutoring too much.

It is going to get better. Now, turn around and tell me the same thing.

While we're on the topic...Deanna, you should be a motivational speaker. Anyone agree??????Roxy,
Right now I am a private tutor. I only have one student (I will
get more as health improves) but I tutor about 2 hours a day
and make about /hr. There are tutors in our area with less
experience who charge and people pay for that. This has
worked well for me b/c I make my own schedule and can take
off for docs appointments or if I am feeling bad. I hope you have
some more luck soon. Roxy,
Remember, there was a reason for this.... don't know now, but you will find out soon..  I know how disappointed you are, and I think the tutoring makes sense.  You are very stong and confident.    With all you have been going through,  you will find a better opportunity.  Hold onto that thought.
Roxy, if you are trying to get SSD, why are you looking for jobs? Did I misunderstand that?  Just wondering... Anyways you dont ever know why you get turned down....maybe someones brother applied for the job or something....Maybe God is telling you to slow your little butt down!

It was perfect I thought.  two hours a day, four days a week, a day.  I was so confident I would get it and it was really all I think I can work right now.   My body is just worn but we could use the money.  I started right away with my application with the school district.  I so miss being a ranger but that is not an option.  I see 70 and 80K jobs that I am qualified for but they are all 40 hours + a week.  Sadly, I KNOW I can't do it.  I just wear out and my mind wears out first.

I think my ego just got hurt.  I really would have been good at the job.  I love kids and they always respect me.  I had to cut my stepson off tonight on IM and he wanted to talk to me about his lovelife - LOL.  He comes to me to try to figure out girls.  lmao

Anyway, back to looking.  I need a job.  We can use the extra income and I am just the kind of person that needs to work, feel productive.

Damn RA.

Deanna, I need to call you.  You so deserve some support.  Sorry I have not been there for you.  YOU SHOULD BE A MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

Katie/Sara - That is a good idea.  Sara - do you specialize in a subject and what age group?

roxy39016.9374305556Have you looked at a learning center. I used to work after school at one
and the money wasn't too bad. Roxy,
I work with 2-8 graders. I figure that I can't handle some really
smart high school kid. Too much preparation! I tutor in all
subjects. The girl I work with after school each day needs help
in all of them so we work on her homework and play some
games to help her with her math skills. It's not as fulfilling for me
as having my own class, but when she brought home her report
card with a B in math (she had a D before I started helping her)
that felt pretty good. There are some websites where you can
find resources.

Thanks Sara.  I used a lot of cool websites to create science lessons for my outdoor program.  I love teaching but reading or science is my favorite.  I used to love algebra, it was like a puzzle, I got over 100% in my two algebra classes in college because I would do extra credit.  LOL  So then the years pass by, about ten and my step son brings me his algebra and asks for my help.  I was amazed.  They either teach it differently or I did not remember a thing - I could not help him.

But, I figure I can teach anything if I get the chance to learn it ore re-learn it first I so envy all of you that are teachers.  Got a few hints on how to better help a parent help a 9th grader?  Having some problems with science and english and I have tried everything I can think of!  I don't think I am communicating the help she needs very well to her.

You can do a search on the computer.  There are a lot of interactive lessons made fun that may help.  For my son, I edit his papers and go over every edit with him.  Then I have him re-write it.  His writing has improved - less edits.  It is so hard to say because everyone has a different style of learning.  That is what makes it challenging but so rewarding.  Maybe if you are more specific, one of the smart teachers on here can help you.  There are some very experienced teachers on this board.  My expertise was hands on science and teaching beginning reading.
