I can post again! Update | Arthritis Information

Wow, that was very odd.  For the last 3 days, I wasn't able to log in, it kept saying something about a cookie problem!  So, that's why I haven't posted in a few days!

I saw the rheumy Tuesday.  I am starting mtx injections tonight.  It was a huge ordeal at the drug store.  Apparently, there has been some sort of production issue with the injectable mtx solution.  Its only available in little bottles with no preservatives so once you open it, you have to throw away the rest of it.  I guess its pretty cheap.  So, after much ado, I ended up getting 5 vials and the pharmacist, this 80 year old clueless jerk, put on there to inject one cc once a week.  I KNEW that was too much.  I got it straightened out with the doc and its supposed to be HALF a cc.  Good thing I called or I would have been doing double my dose!  Apparently 1/2cc is equal to about 12.5mg orally.  I see her again in a month and she will increase it a bit than if I tolerate it ok.  I'm a bit nervous for some reason but ready to feel better.

I've also been having an issue with my jaw.  I've seen three different dentists/oral surgeons this week.  The left side of my jaw is completely dislocated.  I can only open my mouth less than a quarter of an inch.  It hurts like hell.  You can tell just by looking at my face that something is wrong.  Lots of fancy x-rays shows that the lower joint is out of the capsule its supposed to be in and the disc of cartilage that separates the joint from everything else is completely displaced to one side.  They haven't been able to pop it back in or anything.   I see a tmj specialist next Tuesday but in the meantime, I can barely talk, can't eat and get to load up on percocet for the pain!

Its been a very stressful week for me.  I'm feeling very frustrated and worn out.  I still hurt all over.  The rheumy did give me a splint for my wrist and said we have to get the swelling under control, duh!  Hopefully the mtx will do that.  I did my weekly shot of humira last night and I'm still on 12.5mg prednisone but I just can't seem to go any lower right now.  I had to ask my boss for extra money to pay for this specialist next week as he doesn't accept insurance, luckily, he was cool about it as I just don't have the money but can't walk around indefinitely with a dislocated jaw!

I have been reading posts but haven't been able to post but I will try to catch up on everyone a bit later today!

You seem to have a lot going on right now...hope you're feeling better soon Michele. Glad you are back!!  I was gone too

It seems a few of us have had a really crappy week and I hope that it gets better for everyone.

Let me know how the mtx shot worked out for you.

The dentist said it looks like the arthritis has eroded part of my jaw joint and than with me being in so much pain, I clench my jaws and it just popped out.  Its popped a few times before but always just went right back.  They have mentioned surgery a couple of times this week but I'm trying to avoid that at all costs.  I'll wait and see the tmj specialist Tuesday before I make any decisions.  In the meantime, it REALLY hurts.  Hell of a way to lose weight!  I'm still on the steroids so I'm so hungry its not even funny but can't open wide enough to get anything but soup in!!
