amitriptyline - are you on this? | Arthritis Information

I've been on this for years (before being dx with RA). I just stopped taking it (trying to pare down my meds) but now it seems I feel every little ache and pain (which I didn't before). Has anyone gone off amitriptyline and had this happen? What areyour experiences? Why did you stop taking it?   Did the RA doc want you to?   I have been on 50mg./day for several years.  It was given to me to help when I had stomach problems.  The RA said it was good to continue to use it.   Maybe you should still be on it.  I don't get any 'side effects'  from it.  I take it at night.. do you?
Better talk to your doctor...  maybe you have fibro too and that's why you are feeling all those aches and pains.

Yes, I've been on it - but I had an adverse reaction so had to quit it.  But, I LOVED it while I was on it.  I slept like a baby.

You're probably feeling more pains because your seratonin levels are dropping - amitriptyline raises them.  And the lower your seratonin levels - the more you feel pain.

I went off it to see if I really needed to be on it anymore, I've been on it for many years (for headache prevention). But with aches and pains, I'm now sleeping worse, can't seem to stay asleep all night. I may have to go back on it. I also had daytime sleepiness every day (while I was on it), it's better off it, but these other issues don't seem to be worth staying off it.Maybe your dosage was too high?
