Question on hand | Arthritis Information

As I've said far too many times that I have trouble with my left shoulder, arm, etc.

But my left hand is practically unmoveable at night. Is this normal for either RA or MS? It's like it is froze. Of course, like everything else, it is painful. I can't eevn hold anything with that hand.

Opinions? Knowledge? Suggestions?

Deanna, Hi!

The broken record here "splint, splint, splintl" I think I recall you saying once that you have used splints so, if you still have a wrist splint might be worth trying it for a few days. I had such success with mine I'm fixated. It was recommended by both my doctor and a hand surgeon, took me a month to get around to wearing it and cursed myself for the pain I could have saved. Mind you, not 100% successful but one hell of a relief. Please, do try it again even though it may not have worked for you before. Nothing to lose??? Cheers and luck, Des.

Been using them constantly. It's not helping,My right hand/wrist gets like that.  It has a lot of visible swelling to it and my rheumy said it was from the swelling pushing on the nerves.  I just started wearing a split last week and it does seem to help to a certain degree.  I hope you find something to help soon!  Love and hugs!Deanna,  I have had my hand freeze up, in fact both of them for hours, whole days.  I don't have MS.  I think it is RA.  It is a scary feeling.  I am so sorry you are going through this.

Yours is something different...is your hand really swollen? Or does it look pretty normal?

If it is swollen get your hand and elbow above your heart ( I hope your shoulder will allow it). Try to open and close your hand (fist/unfist) to pump fluid out of your lower arm. When the swelling goes it will take most of the pain with it.

If it is not swollen, my guess is that the ulnar nerve is being compressed at your neck or shoulder - not enough to make it go numb but plenty to make it hurt. I don't know what to do for it except to try to position yourself to lessen the 'pinch'.

That would be a good one to bring to your Dr....

It is always something if it is not 2 others. Damn my Dad was right.

marian39021.5690393519Deanna, that's what happened to me right before they found the tendinitis(sp?) in my hand. It still happens at very random times. Usually it's quite a while after doing some repetative - that makes very little sense, I realize. But it's true. You have tendinitis(sp), right? Or no?

I'm not having hardly any swelling, certainly not like Michele has had. I mean, I can see a little. But most people would think that both hands look normal. It's always been the case. However all the tendons in my neck, shouler and forearm are swollen by evening.

I've get numbness and pins and needles feeling in my hands every night. That's why I've worn wrist splints since the beginning. They checked (relunctantly) for carpal tunnel then. I have friends with it and it doesn't seem to be the same. Although, by now, it is certainly possible.

It definitely starts from the neck, down to the shoulder, then the elbow, then the hand. It's like a slow freeze without the cold. I also get tremors similar to what is going on in my legs but not as violent.

But now I get real pain in my thumb, and the next two fingers.

By night time, the hand becomes a claw. I cannot lift, open or do anything with it. It is untameable.

I do see the doctor tomorrow. I think I'm going to have to ask for a different kind of cane. I can't seem to hold it with my left hand any more.

I feel like a weeble wobble person. Oh, and my left leg drags. That might just be the knee.

Can I pick something else do now besides RA? I mean I want to do something fun! I would love to go out on a real date, all made up to do something really fun. Or, go to the Renaissance festival. Oh, just anything. I am desperate for some adventure.

I go to the movies when I get like that. I like the IMAX where it feels like you are really part of it.

Arm Chair adventure Please let us know what the doc said.

I'm up for some adventure.  We could go to Freak Mart and take over all the electric scooter thingies there and have races.

mine does that while I'm asleep. I wake up with completely frozen hands except they are on fire. I have a long heavily padded splint that helps a bit. I guess I'll dig it out tonight.

Hi there Deanna. Sorry to hear that you are feeling so darn bad.

You are looking for some adventure? Wish I would have know that last night. I was in your area on my broom. I could have picked you up & we could had a great time. Of course, from the long ride I have some major, major, splinters. Every year I go to the ER  the day after halloween to have them removed.

You take care, honey.

Trisha

You want to do something besides RA?  Want to come over and help me unpack and decorate???????????

Oh, Roxy, it would be fun watching the two of us try and put your place together. I can see us now, trying to move things without walking, reaching or hurting one another.

Actually, I think it would be a blast. I especially want to see that big aquarium and to meet Kelsey and Brett.
