I have had RA and Rheumatoid vasculitis for 13 years but during the last 5 years I keep getting severe infections.  Does anyone else get recurrent infections?  What can I do to prevent these?  I currently am taking mtx, pred.....

thanks, pat

I am not on mtx, but have been on prednisone and I know that
both of those medications can increase your susceptibility to
infection.

What kind of infections are they? That's the clue to how they need to be treated. For instance, with Enbrel, I got fungal skin infections and that treated that with cleaning it with Iodine and a fungal antiobiotic. If it is ear infections, they might use an antibiotic and cortisone ear drops.

More info is needed. Vasculitis is the dangerous one. That causes me a lot of skin problems. It's a really good question to ask a Rheumatologist. Maybe you could ask one of those online Rheumys. Some of them have call in or online Q&As. I assume you've covered the question with your own Rheumy.

Hand washing, hand sanitizer, and anti bacterial wipes are really good for preventing infections.  If you want to try any alternative treatments, make sure you can take them with your meds first.
