NODULES? | Arthritis Information

I WAS DIAGNOSED TWO YEARS AGO AND KEEP HEARING ABOUT THESE NODULES.  MY DOCTOR SEEMED SURPRISED I DO NOT HAVE ANY.  IS THIS SOMETHING NEW I HAVE TO LOOK FORWARD TO?  WHEN DID YOURS APPEAR AND WEAR?

Not everyone gets nodules.  I don't have any and I have had this disease for more than 10 years.  The most common place for a rheumatoid nodule to appear is at the elbows.

I just have synovial lumps -- lots and lots of synovial lumps.

Let's hope you never get rheumatoid nodules.

Hugs,

Janis

As Janis said, not everyone gets nodules. I think its about 30% of those with RA that develop them. This site has some info on them

http://arthritis.about.com/od/nodules/

So hopefully your in that 70%.

I got 'em. Feet, elbow, knees and knuckles. Some come and go and some never go away. I have had the ones on my elbows removed. They did grow back but they aren't nearly as big as they were before. I've had JRA for 30+ years and I have always had them. I also have bunions and bursars on my feet.

Hi Janis,

What does a synovial lump look like?  Is it more like a soft lump in the joint? My son had a kind of soft  lump the size of a garbonzo bean in his wrist within a couple months of the onset of what we believe to be JRA.  The lump was there for sev month, then vanished just as mysteriously as it came.  I've always suspected it was a Rheumatoid Nodule, but had never heard of the synovial lumps and don't know what the difference would be appearance wise or other.

Thanks,

I have a lovely Nodule on my elbow, it wasn't really bugging me until about a month ago, now it's uncomfortable when I rest my elbows on the table or desk.

Wonder if it can be removed?

JenM

thanks for the posts.  my Rhumy just acts like she's shocked I don't have them but after reading your article, apparently not everyone gets them.  I'm also seronegative for RF..took a long time for diagnosis and I suffered greatly before I found a good Rheumy.  I thought I had some kind of bone cancer!   Karen Karen..why did you think you had bone cancer?  Are you having pain in your bones too?  I have pain in the long bones of my arms.  With nodules around them too.  Boy does that hurt.  Do you have the same thing?  Susan [QUOTE=Pam S]

Pam this could have also been a ganglion cyst.  The description you gave sounds like the one I had.  The only difference is my came up on the back of my hand and travelled to my wrist then disappeared.  Kinda squishy and didn't hurt??

As for nodules...21 years in and I've never had one.
hugs, wayney
susan, youbetcha!  even my long bones hurt, not just my joints.  i have fibro as well so not sure if that's why  or not!

I have nodules on my low back and also on the front of my legs. The doctor told me not to worry about them and that there is nothing they can do about them.
