I saw my rheumy today and he said I need to get a flu shot. I thought it was dangerous to get one with RA. I asked him and he said it was dangerous to get the flu...anyone have any advise? have you had a flu shot and been okay? thanks for any imput, Rain

It is o.k. to get the flu shot and probably a good idea.  I got one this year as I have every year in the past.  You shouldn't get LIVE viruses, but the flu shot is not a live virus.

I got my flu shot last week...no ill effects.  This is the third year I've gotten a shot with RA...no problems.  My RD was very insistent that I get the shot.  It's not a live virus vaccine so I don't think there's much risk of complications.

My Rd too said I need one.  This will be my 5th year in a row.

I haven't EVER had a flu shot til this year.  Got it 2 weeks ago - NO PROBLEMS!!!!

My RD said no LIVE vaccines - flu shots are dead ones.

Had my flu shot last Monday, but had to delay the Remicade another week because of it, the 2 pharmacists at the hospital said I should hold off.My doctors insist I get a flu shot.  It makes me feel a bit more secure.  Thank you all so very much! I've never had one before, but this is the first time in my life I've taken meds too. I guess I'm getting the shot. Enjoy your day, RainThe nasal spray flu vaccine is a live vaccine so don't get that.I was afraid to get the flu shot as well but my rheumy assured me i'd be better oof getting one. Got one 3 days ago and I am fine.

I had never had a flu shot before either but my rd was very insistent so got my first one this year also. I haven't had any problems either. As a matter of fact, I forget I had one until someone brings it up.

have a good day everybody,

jamie

My RA says it was the flu shot that triggered this RA in me!  I will never get a flu shot again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!All of the rheumatologists I've had have always told me to get a
flu shot. The only problems I have had is my shoulder gets
really stiff and sore for a few days. It's worth it because if I got
the flu I would be down for weeks.

I always get a flu shot. So far no problems. So far no flu either. I think this is my 6th or 7th year.

I caught the flu about 10 years ago and was sick for months... and that was before the heavy meds, I was just taking an nsaid.

LynnAnn,
I have never heard of that!!  I don't understand how that can be since it isn't a live virus.  But, I understand how you can be cautious of getting one.
