I am tired of being screwed | Arthritis Information

I called Medicaid today to FINALLY get an answer to my very simple question.

Does Medicaid pick up the co-pays from my primary insurance?

Drum roll, please...

Yes, they do.

So, I have been paying co-pays I did not have to pay as no one was submitting my left over co-pays from my primary to Medicaid.

So... I have been screwed out of 0+ since being on Medicaid and paying for co-pays I was not to be paying for!!!

But I still have to pay my co-pay for my Humira until I get it prior approved and get my referral back to my RD approved. So... a couple more months of paying the co-pay until that happens.

joonie39029.5348148148I believe the doctor's office has to reinburse you. Try that. I'd be furious too. They have to call and figure out your copay and insurance BEFORE your treatment. It's their mistake. They should take care of it.Deanna39029.5593171296

I was only screwed out of by the doctor I went to see, I have been screwed out of most of the money from the pharmacy for my meds. The receptionist said medicaid did not pay for primary insurance co-pays and I would have to pay the co-pay left over by my primary insurance which was . I knew it was not right, but I was not going to stand there is argue with her, as I had not been on medicaid in years and figured they might have changed it on me.

I mean my kids are on medicaid too, and they do not have to pay for much of anything except maybe 50 cents for meds and medicaid always picked up what our primary did not pay for.

I will call that doctors office tomorrow and tell them I want back my damn !

I have to pay for my doctor visit for tomorrow as I am not going to the doctor medicaid gave me as that is the one who screwed me out of my and was really snotty when I seen her. So... I would rather pay to see a doctor I have seen before and know is nice and not a b!tch.

Oh and I am also going to change my medicaid doctor tomorrow too. She bit ass. She was rude and made me feel like I was lying to her about having JRA. As, I asked her for a referral back to my RD and for a pred dose pack to get me thur my vacation I went on earlier in the month. and she acted like she did not believe I had JRA, and asked why I needed to pred dose pack and I told her before my left foot was swelled and beginning to flare, which it was, but she said she did not see any swelling, but she did not ask for me to take my shoe off either. It was swelled on the bottom part of my foot when the arch is. That stuff hurts when I get a flare there makes it extra hard to walk and I walk on the outside of my foot and curve my foot inward to protect the bottom of my foot when it is flaring.

Hey, question for you....is anyone eligible to be on Medicade if they have private insurance?  I don't know how that works and am looking for ways to pay for my Enbrel.  I sent in a request for them to pay part or all of my monthly co-pay because it is going to be 0.00/month.  That is even with mail order.  It's 20% of the cost of the med.
Thanks,
Phatgirl2

Hi Phatgirl2

No, I get medicaid because I am on SSI. I am too young for Social Security Disability and I do not really have enough work credits for SSD, just 2 shy of being somewhat eligable. I was however eligable for SSI, but it is based on hubby's income and I do not get much, but it does help with paying for my meds since they were screwing me.

****Update****

I went to Freak-Mart aka Wal-Mart to get my call-in pred tonight and they tried to screw me again!

I guess I am going to have to tell them to run it thru medicaid everytime I go to pick up my meds if I do not want to get screwed.

Freak-Mart sucks a$$. I think I might change pharmacys again. *sigh*

Wow...a doctor that can do assesments for swelling to the foot THROUGH a shoe...so she has xray vision does she? She is pretty freaking amazing! Did you ask her if she was an alien or got bitten by a radioactive spider?

You are the 2nd person to mention she might have x-ray vision

Hubby said I needed to change her as my PCP. I tend to agree and will work on that tomorrow.

Joonie, I didn't realize you were on SSI. Go back to the pharmacy and make them rerun all your previous prescriptions and demand a refund. Then make sure that they have only your Medicaid listed in their files, not any other insurance like your husband's. That's so tacky of them. I get mine filled at Target and the one where I go is very good. Sometimes, you not only have to change doctors but pharmacies as well.

My daughter gets SSI and it really sucks the amount that you get.

If you can't handle dealing with the doctor's office and the pharmacy, then call your medical case manager through your Medicaid program. Maybe they can take care of the whole thing for you.

Well, most of the money I paid to the pharmacy was for my Humira thru caremark and they have yet to get my medicaid straightened out it looks like. But that might be because my Humira has yet to be PA'ed thru medicaid yet. I am going to work on that today, too.

What a deal Joonie.  If my SSI gets approved.  Do I get insurance like that???????  I pay co-pays it seems daily.  I wish I understood the medicare/medicaid rules.  I don't even know the difference between them.  Eventually we are going to have to pay COBRA on my insurance.

Brett must have thought when he married me he was going to be taken care for life.  I had good benefits, good income, and very fit.  What a disappointment I must be.

But I am sure you will get medicare, it is not as good as medicaid, because they do not pay co-pays like the state you live in does, because you are not viewed as being "poor" if you get SSD, as you worked most of your life and you should have a nest egg by the time you apply for SSD. But since I am only 27 I did not work much maybe 2 years when I was in teenage remission, I do not to have SSD.

Well, I think I can, but I would not get much probably less than what I am getting now from SSI and I would have to pay all those co-pays to Medicare which are more than Medicaids co-pays and then it would probably take up all of my check. Sooo... I stayed with SSI and medicaid, as the other would have been a big long drawn out thing with the appealing of it and all and for what a meesly 0 a month and then give half of that to a pharmacy for my meds because I would only have medicare and no medicaid? I think not!

Joonie,

What state are you in?

alabama

Check out your individual state requirements. Some states (most of them now) have medically needy programs. AZ doesn't. But if your medical expenses bring below the income level, they will pay most of your medical with a money fee that is extremely reasonable.

Look for information through Income Support or Department of Economic Security pages.

Also check out this site. It will help you figure out what you qualify for in your area.
