flare AFTER Humira inj | Arthritis Information

I took my second injection Weds morning. I felt great yesterday (Thurs) morning. Woke up with lots of energy and hardly no pain whatsoever. I went to work at church where I am a secretary. I put together the bulletins they hand out on Sun. morning. I worked maybe 2 hours at the most. I went home and had some lunch and my right elbow/wrist/hand was throbbing so badly I couldn't move it! I took pain meds and it didn't even touch it.

Has anyone had a major flare after taking their humira injections? I was like RA was telling me it's still in control. I thought maybe it is still too early for it to work but I felt sooooo great when I got up.....hmmmm any thoughts anyone?

thx

Humira can take anywhere up to 3 months to work.  RA is so weird.  We can wake up feeling great and then a few hours later....whammo!  we feel cruddy.  I have flared on it when I get too stressed out or the weather has been cruddy for a couple of days in a row.  I don't think anything will completely take away our flares.  Just make them less intense.

Are you taking anything along with the Humira like mtx or pred?

I can't take mtx. Had an allergic reaction. I take relafen and cymbalta. Vicodin when I have it. I only have a few left and can't get a refill until the 16th cuz' my stupid insurance won't pay for it til then.  It's crazy about the flare because I have never had any problems with my right elbow & wrist. it was always on the left.

thx

Handling paper makes my elbow hurt like H too.

If it just aches- try heat, if swelling increased- try cold pack.

You may still have flares on any of the biologics. Two injections are not enough to even know if it is going to work for you. It IS a good sign that you have been feeling fine.

You might need a pred pack to kick that flare in it's butt and get it to calm down.  Maybe if you are not feeling any better in the next few days, call your doc on Monday and see what they say.

thanks Gramma & Marion.....I am feeling much better today. I think it was probably the rain and a cold front going through. We actually had snow flurries last night. yucky.....I want to move to Arizona....Illinois is bad on Uncle Arthur!!
