Night sweats? | Arthritis Information

Anyone else occassionally wake up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat since RA?  I feel like I've turned into a furnace!  At 38 years old, I don't think it's menopause - lol.

- Joy Actually...not to freak you out, but it could be. Heck, why not  add another one to the mix! Joy39035.8725694444

Believe us that have gone through this, it sounds like the start of menopause.  I would like to make a suggestion, in the pharmacies now is a kit you can pick up and test to see whether or not you may be starting menopause.  I believe it measures the estrogen in your urine.  This test came out in the last couple of years and several ladies I know tried it and it seems to work.  meme

ps one of my sister in laws went through menopause at the age of 35!

meme39035.8824421296I get night sweats. However, I did have a baby 6 months ago....and I had night sweats after I had my daughter for about a year.

BUT they are WORSE this time. It stinks. :( I also notice when I'm REALLY having a bad day pain-wise, and I don't have proper pain relief (which is daily right now. lol) they are worse. Wierd....

I hope it's not menopause....all the women in my family go through it late. REALLY late.

In the early stages of my treatment, I got the night sweats a lot. I think it can be either or both.

I don't get them any more since they've upped all my meds.

Or, I could have gone through menopause and never known it. I only have one ovary. But I would get the night sweats when I was flaring the worse.

Well I am on HRT and I still get night sweats.  I was going through menopause when I started taking the DMARDS.  When I began MTX it brought the hot flashes to an intolerable level and so I started HRT.  I still have trouble with night sweats (otherwise I don't have hot flashes any more) so I am attributing them to RA or the meds or both since technically I shouldn't have any problems.

Okay, the "I just gotta know" researcher in me found this from our arthritisinsight.com site( http://arthritisinsight.com/medical/disease/ra/notjustthejoi nts.html)

"Low grade fevers and night sweats are also common features of RA."

I also found a few other references when I googled "night sweats rheumatoid arthritis" (googled without the quotation marks).

And my hubby wanted me to mention to you all that he gets grossed out now if he kisses me goodnight when I'm sleeping and my face is all sweaty! lol!!  (He should just come to bed earlier!!)

RA and meds.  I was in early menopause, hysterectomy at 42, no night sweats, 48 - get RA - regular night sweats.  Meds and RA - Drives Brett crazy - cold .......... hot ............cold ARGHHm. I guess I'm lucky, I don't get that. Then again...we keep the AC at about 68.....LOL My vote is for night sweats and RA. Anti depressants can cause night sweats too.

Ooh, I talked to my Nurse Specialist about this last visit! (Not MY own personal nurse but you know what I mean). I have PA rather than RA, on Infliximab (remicade), MTX, arcoxia and occasional tramadol. I have been getting night sweats accompanied by WIERD dreams and sometimes night terrors (if you've never had them, much worse than nightmares, you can't remember specifics just the feeling of absolute terror). She asked me to keep a diary of it and I've noticed it matches times when I've had a flare up or generally feeling worse. I don't get them for the first couple of weeks post infusion but get more towards the next infusion date. I am not menopusal - have my hormones checked regularly for a whole other reason...

This is a great topic and very timely.  I was getting night sweats until I went on HRT, then I would only get them when I was on the prometrium, which cancels some of the dangerous effects of the estrogen.  But now, I get them all the time and I was wondering if it had anything to do with either the disease or the meds.  Right now I'm guessing it's not hormone related at all because the sweats were very well under control and I knew exactly what was going on for the few nights I did have them.  They always went away when I was back to just taking the estrogen pill.   I vote yes! it can be from the disease and/or meds.

I asked my rd about this as I have suffered from night sweats and she told me that in some patients night sweats are symptomatic of RA.  I was tested and my hormone levels are good.  Hiking gal

I get the hot sweats day and night, it can be so embarrasing when talking to people in freezing weather and have sweat pouring off me. My doctor thought it was early menopause so put me on eostrogen patches , the sweats didnt stop while using them and i had to go off them due to severe skin allergy. So I still get the sweats. my heater goes on,off on ,off. very annoying

Regardless of your condition or medication, tell your doctor. I was having night sweats last year due to my lymphoma. It's always possible that there are more than one reason why you might get them. Better that they should check you out carefully than you checking out prematurely!  I had night swets when on high levels of prednisone. RD said that was the cause. I used to baby powder myself all over before putting pj's on. I had a spare pj top nearby so when I woke up in the middle of the night drenched I could change into something warm & dry.I've had night sweats, but also approaching 50 soon, so could be menopause, RA or a combination, I guess.    Curious for those on HRT - any issues with HRT and RA meds?   Something I need to research since I'm getting closer, but thought I'd ask.  hi joy my body tempreture was allways been high..  like my
cooler had broke down.. but when i got ra whoooosh went hotter..
it was due to my night sweats and high wbc chronic leukemia
was suspected..

CathyMN, I'm on RA drugs (see below) and HRT (estradiol, essian and prometrium) and there is no problem at all with the mix.  Thanks Jesse -
I take mtx and enbrel - glad to hear with at least one, no issues.   I'll have to check further into enbrel and HRT.
wow.. lots of sweaty people on here.

I had night sweats until about four months ago.. RD was THRILLED they stopped.. he said they were symptomatic..

I'm 50.. dead on five years into menopause... I hadn't had night sweats for five years til flare occurred.
babs102008-05-22 19:00:18I have night sweats a few nights every week, have since beginning.  Had tests done, the doctors just said it went with my flairs.I am 10 years PAST menopause and I do frequently get night sweats.  My doctor said this may be related to my RA.  Just another joyous benefit of our disease.  Me too, I have hot flashes sometimes when no one else does.  I get hot at night and don't want covers on, unlike my husband.  I am 65, so way past menopause! It's got to be the RA.  I'm not on predisone now.but was particularly bothersome when I was.
