How long does it take for Humira to work? | Arthritis Information

I just took my second shot of Humira.  How long before you get relief?  I may have a little relief but not much.  So, how long before it works?

Praying and keeping fingers crossed.

I've been on Humira for exactly one year now. It took three or four shots before I really noticed any improvement, and then after three or four months my RD upped me to every week, and after about three weeks of that I felt better than I had in a long time. I could move again.

Hi to all,
my sister is suffering the last 10 years from Crohns which has evolved to the forms of arthritis that gives you swallens kneess and huge difficulties to all the joints of your body —she can barely walk. She has neber taken any medicine before as we tried to go the alternative way (natural healing & homeopathy) but things only got worse. She is just about to go on humira and I would like to ask the forum if there are any chances that one day she will be free from humira.Or will she have to be on medicine for the rest of her life.

Thank you all
Costas

Crohn's disease is a chronic (lifelong) condition. There is no cure right now . . . So, yeah, she'll probably need to be on some form of immunosupressant medication for the rest of her life.

I don't know if her form of Crohn's has a high spontaneous remmission rate or not - let's hope it does.

Most likely she won't be taking Humira forever though - it'll stop working or something better will come along. I suprised they started her on Humira. I thought Remicade was the only TNF inhibitor approved for Crohn's. I guess once one gets approved they all get in line.

I hope Humira works out for her - let's us know how she's doing. (I have a sister with Ulcerative Colitis and a cousin with severe Crohn's)

Trixie, you've been on it a couple of months now, so how is it going? Have you noticed improvement in your symptoms?

I just had my first injection this morning, and I'm very hopeful that Humira will give me great relief eventually.

So far, Jodi, it has helped but not as much as I would have hoped for.  Every shot it's been a little better each time.  It definately works better with MTX.  Many people I've talked to say it doesn't really get good til about 6 months.  I'm at getting to 4 months now.  My feet no longer feel like they are breaking with each step; so definate improvement!

It took nearly 3 months before the injections began to really make me feel better and show in improvement on my skin (psoriasis).  Its been almost a year now and I feel very, very good.

Best wishes on it helping you.

We need research on how to get drugs that work faster! My Humira nurse told me that you don't get the full effects until you've been on it three months. I just did my first shot three days ago and am noticing a difference in my pain and inflammation already.

take care,

Lynne
