puffy feet | Arthritis Information

I have been having a problem with water retention in my feet.  The are so puffy they hurt when you touch them.  I get some relief when I put on my sneakers and tie them tightly.  I guess this forces the water out of my feet.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Can I take a water pill with all the other medication I pump into my body for RA? Any advice? I can't stand having sausage toes any longer!

Welcome to the group Sha....

I don't have any experience with that myself...but hopefullly someone will be along shortly that has first hand experience to share with you.

I just wanted to say Welcome. Hope to see more of you here.

Hi Sha,

You don't say what medications your on. However, when I was on large doses of prednisone, I also experienced swollen toes, ankles and legs just from water retention caused by the drug. In fact if I didn't put my tennis shoes on first thing in the morning, they didn't get put on that day. And yes they were very sore to the touch. The Dr did put me on a diuretic, even though I was on a lot of other medication, and he also reduced the amount of prednisone I was taking.    The swelling eventually did go down, but my legs were still sore to the touch for several months afterward.

Hopes this helps.

I am taking 10 mg of prednisone, embrel and relafin.  I think I will put a call into my doc and see if I can get a diuretic.  Thanks very much for your advice.  There is such good advice and people on this message board!
