hi everyone, im pretty upset. up until recently i have had a relatively positive outlook on my future. went to the orthopedic surgeon again to go ahead and decide on an operation on my severely contractured elbow. it is so painful. excruciating no relief. cant drive my car, hard to get on my bag for school and my left wrist is strained from picking up all the extra labor.

have not been sleeping well. rheumatologist doc has put me on tramodol which does nothing like im a junky. he doesnt listen to me. ended up in a long arm cast to minimize the pain/self injury. cant type with two hands!! says that i will have to live this way because i have a severe case, and im too young for joint replacement.

!!!!how do you expect me to live in pain w/no right dominant arm function???!

ortho suggests operation which transplants fashia tissue into the joint cavity. prob. is, not guareenteed much more movement or too much pain relief. op is a big risk, whole elbow taken apart. anyone have this done???

Yeah, my right wrist was broken and my elbow is cracked, I am in constant pain especially when it rains...a constant reminder of my disease...a constant reminder of my life.

The ortho could not fix my wrist due to oa....my wrist is like driftwood..so I live with it not set right and in pain......my elbow hurts daily. I am sure it will need surgery but I doubt that they will be able to repair it. I am just thankful for being alive and safe.

Awww Sophista hunny I'm so sorry about all of this. I so feel for you.  If you don't mind me asking, how old are you?  Can you get a second opinion from another ortho?  Why in the world would they do a surgery with no guaranteed results when they have to be just as invasive for a replacement?  I don't get it.  I understand that the hardware for replacement can wear out after 20 years but I would rather do a 2nd replacement 20 years from now!

I am on the young side for replacement (38) and they are going to do my knee because it is that bad and there are no other options left.

In the meantime, are you able to change pain meds to find something that might work better for you so you can get some pain relief?  You are not supposed to live in pain and should be given the best chance to regain at least some of your dominant arm function and not an oh well answer.

yeah, what she said...

The tramadol is a joke as far as pain meds are concerned...I dont see that it works any better than regular Tylenol. But young or not, if you cant use a joint and there is no hope for it to get better, why would they hold back on replacing it...so what if it would have to be done again later...it sure isnt doing you any good the way it is now! I am sorry you are having such a bad time.
